So last night I remember going into my reptile room at about 10pm and checking on everyone and my two females that live together, I recently put them in a 4ft and they seem to be doing well.. but last night I must of left their cage door *slightly* open and only one of my females got out (I didn't know this as I was downstairs).

At around 1.30am I went back in the room as I forgot to put some carrots in my mealworms/ dubia roaches tanks.. I walked in, didn't see anything on the floor, i fed the mealworms and dubia roaches, but as soon as I turned around I stood on something and I was like "what the hell?" And I looked and it was only my freaking leopard gecko!!! I QUICKLY grabbed her and started crying my eyes out thinking I killed her! She seemed to of blended in with my carpet(or im going blind) She was very cold (as that room never really gets warm) and she wouldn't move.. I really did think she was dead, but I saw her throat going in and out so I realised she was kind of OK.. I put her back under her ceramic bulb to get warm and after 5 minutes she started moving and even ate a mealworm!

When I was holding her I checked her over and thought her back was broke or something as her back was flat (but she might of been trying to "go flat" to get some heat from my hand..)..

The only thing I noticed is when she started walking, both of her back feet start slightly twitching( I only stood on her back legs/tail.. not that it makes it any better:(

My question is; should I still take her to the vets? Usually I wouldn't chance it by not going but she seems to be okay? I will probably go anyway, just for a quick xray.. or whatever you have to do to see if she has internal damages:'(

I'm just completely heartbroken and feel like I've failed her because I couldn't even do something as *simple* as closing a bloody door.

I'VE LEARNED ALOT FROM THIS *AWFUL* EXPERIENCE.... THAT I NEED TO BUY LOCKS FOR EVERY SINGLE VIV I OWN!!! Even though the females vivarium has stiff doors, it will make me remember that the doors are closed properly!

I'm just going to keep a close eye on her and see if she's coping okay until I can get her in to the vets tomorrow

It sounds as if you have a good plan. These geckos are incredibly hardy and can often survive something like that. I have a lot of geckos and cages and I occasionally leave a cage open by accident. I've lost a few geckos that way, and I feel terrible about it when it happens. Good luck with her.
