I am building a new incubator today and tonight I was wondering if you guys/gals would like a tutorial on how it was done with pics as well??? It is not a cooler incubator this one I am building from wood. I already use one like it but seeing how I have quite a few more females this year I figured Id better build another one.

Well here goes.....

I was not able to finish it up tonight so I guess this will have to be a two parter. First pic is just the materials. I used 3/4 inch melamine sheet. The measurements were 16 inches deep by 24 inches wide and 48 inches tall. He is just the materials......

next is just putting it together, nothing special here....

Next is just showing that I seal everything as I go......

Next is the most important part...the insulation. Im not sure what it is called I get it from a guy at work and it really works great.....

Next I finish the inside part with 1/8th inch shower board. Once sealed this is what protects the wood from the moisture and such. Plus it looks nice as well.

This was all that I was able to get done this evening but I will finish it up tomorrow and finish up this post as well. The one shown below is the one I built a couple of years ago and is powered by a hovabator with heat cable attached to the thermo of the hovabator. I also add a small CPU fan to help keep the temps the same top and bottom and no I havent had any troubles with the eggs drying out or any other problems with the fan.
The one I am working on now will have 11 inch heat tape and controled by a Helix. I hope it works as good as the other one!!!!

I am always interested in another project to keep my hubby busy. He just got finished building my "floating" shelves and he needs something to do, LOL.

Seeing this idea makes me think that you could convert a regular cabinet into an incubator using the same method. Ohhhhh all the possibilities! :)

Your right....all it takes is the ideas. you just have to be sure that it is well insulated and seal so no water or moisture damage!!!
i have use cabinets that I have bought at Lowes or Home Depot to make cages before too!!
Im not able to finish this guy till Friday....Work calls. Seems like everytime I really get moving on something work has to rear its ugly head.

Thomas,

I feel let down! Realizing your carving abilities, I thought maybe your incubators would be carved out of one solid piece of some exotic wood, maybe a 2 foot x 3 foot block:main_laugh: :main_laugh: :main_laugh:
Very nice work and best of luck with your projects!!!

Yep, its tomorrow already. But rain tonight would not allow me to get outside to cut the door. I went ahead and put in theshelves and installed the heat tape and Helix. So tomorrow barring anymore rain I will get it finished up!! I picked up the hardware ie...hinges and latches and then had to paint them cause I could not find any in black. I thought black on the white would look good, guess we will see.
