SO....i went to the pet store today to get more mealies, and i saw a poor little gecko off by itself sleeping while the others were all huddled up in the one hide that the tank has. It was SO SKINNY! the lady said they almost a month old...but he wasnt just skinny...he was bony. his tail had absolutely no fat on it. he did seem lively when i held him though. i'm wondering if because he's so much smaller than the other geckos if he's not getting enough food? i feel so bad for him. I think on monday when i go back, if he's still there, i'm going to get him.

what would you do? opinions please? and i do have the money and means to take care of him.

I would ask if the store will adopt it to you for no charge. Paying for it will just help continue the cycle of not properly caring for "inventory items".

Well, I recently posted something about my Leopard Gecko which I purchased from a pet store...

I bought him because he had two tails since the employees handled him poorly and it caused him to lose his tail. People would come in calling him "retarded" because of how he looked...He didn't break it off all the way through so when the new one regenerated, he grew up having 2 tails.
He's healthy and safe now, its been 6 years eversince....

I've rescued 2 more Leos from a petstore because they just don't seem to care (in my opinion), there have been some leos rotting in Pet store tanks just neglected by employees...but they past away because of parasites that they had, due to the store's neglect...

I mean, if you have the money and equipment and you really feel that's the only way you can save its life then I say go for it. If you have any leos already than you should quarantine.

W. Light and love and blessings to you =)

I think that sounds like a good idea. If they are not going to pay a couple of bucks to take care of an animal then, why do they need the money?:main_angry:

I would go get they little gecko and give it the love it doesn't have.:main_thumbsup:
I think if you get it you are doing the right thing instead of leaving it there to be lonely for the rest of it's life.

The gecko may be really skinny because it's being dominated by the others and can't get to the food, but it also may be really skinny because it's got parasites or something worse.

If you do get it, I recommend:

--keeping it in very strict quarantine
--take it and a poop sample to the vet ASAP
--be prepared for the possibility that it won't make it.
