I got mine free on craigslist. I am always looking in the pet section in craigslist to adopt and i saw an add for 2 leopard geckos that were neglected by young children that pretty much stuck their grandmother with geckos they didnt want to care for. I paid $50 for the tank, vitamins, reptio carpet, 100 crickets, 2 large cricket carriers, 3 lamps with bulbs, UTH, 50 mealworms, 50 superworms and tank hides and accessories. I though that was a pretty sweet deal so i took it despite me having 6 other tanks (you can never have enough tanks). One of the geckos was underweight so he has been eating well with me.
I have seen another ad for a leopard gecko that looked like a skeleton, you could barely tell it was a living leopard gecko. A guy found it in an abandoned house where the owners left a bunch of there stuff and apparently just ditched a gecko they didnt feel like caring for. I responded to this ad but some one picked him up before me, a nice vet which is good. I keep an eye on craigslist because there are always animals to adopt there and alot of freebies too. I got $400 worth of reptile stuff (light fixtures, 55g tank w/ screen, hides, zoo med feeding bowls etc) for free.

I prefer adoption because there are plenty of animals that need homes and plus i got two very sweet geckos free.

I just turned down an offer from someone I don't know that wanted to give me a free leo. That person wanted to import some geckos, but didn't know the procedure and was having language barrier with the U.S. breeder. The breeder contacted me and so I gave that person some help via emails. In the end, he said he wanted to thank me by giving me one gecko for free...so I turned down his nice offer :).
**BECAUSE IF I HAD THAT EXTRA SPACE AT HOME, I WOULD'VE FILLED IT UP ALREADY!!**
I NEED MORE SPACE!!!

I have taken rescues, but I don't count them as free geckos because care/rehab is a lot more than probably buying a healthy gecko from a breeder.
I have however have got some really good deals before.
I also recieved two free tanks because a girl at a pet store saw me buying things for my rescues (At that time was 2 dragons, 1 skink, and 3 leos) and gave me two of her tanks.
It was pretty awesome.

I got my SHTCT from Rick(THE WHISPERER) on here for free, she was a Secret Easter Bunny gift. I've never regretted it, and she's doing great here. When I got her, she was 49 grams or so. Probably the best weight for her, but I think she enjoyed her ample amount of mealworms/supers a little too much. Now she's close to 90 grams. When he shipped her to me, she was in perfect health and everything, so I suppose that's what you would call a "free leo." Still can't thank Rick enough^^.

All my geckos were "adopted"

First was Lana a Bell Hybino Leopard Gecko. Nick had purchased her form Paul Sage I believe with the hopes of breeding her and a few other girls but they weren't putting on the weight so he decided to put them up for adoption as pet only geckos! I just had to pay the shipping. She wasn't bad to begin with just long and lanky looking I thought it was her body type but almost a year later visually, she's doubled in width, lmao!

The other two geckos are African Fat Tails that now that I realized it came from this site as well a week ago. Rebecca PM'd me because of friend of hers in NYC was going through a big change in her life and had to find a new home for her two geckos and Rebeca herself couldn't take them in. So after a few PM's and emails I got both geckos free of charge with their enclosures, UTHs, Half logs, etc. free of charge since I drove into Brooklyn to pick them up. I knew that one of the geckos was underweight and not eating right before I got there but I was a little surprised when I saw him and the girl. These will need a little more TLC and food compared to Lana but so far it's working out GREAT!.

I love all my geckos and the people that led me to them so I don't regret my decisions at all. It was an absolute honor and reward to see Lana grow and I hope to do the same with the AFTs.

my first Leo was given to me from my meme's neighbor he was moving back in with his wife and she would forbid that he kept the gecko.that summer I met camileoestives (a chameleon) and fell in LOVE:smitten:.I asked my parent's repeatedly for a lizard. one day while at my meme's I guess someone must have mentioned my love for reptile's,and she said that her neighbor was getting rid of his leo, and that she could ask about her and my mom gave her that side way look and said quietly "mom we were thinking of getting a lizard for me". it's been 2 year's since then and I still have daisy (I named her) and she prefers me:D I love her very much.she lives in a 20 gallon the guy gave us a 15 gallon originally also my little brother got a crestie. my parent's wouldn't call it free :main_laugh:

This is the list that he said he is buying: super snow bell abino, bell sunglow enigmas and snow bell abino, plus some others (total 60+ geckos); so I guess he is going to give me one of those.

Lack of space really sucks. I'm trying to treat all my geckos equally, so they all get same sized glass tanks (same furnishings); that's why I can't sqeeze anymore space from my gecko room. I now have 6 empty tanks, but they are my final reserves; and I have already planned way ahead what I'm going to put in them.
