Roger, that is kinda harsh, no offense.

Joseph, I don't think it's a great idea to introduce them physically. The hamster might hurt the gecko or the gecko might think the hamster is some kinda prey he can chase.

Maybe put each other's photo in a frame on the wall of their tanks :)

Why would u even consider asking a question like that.If u would even consider a thought like that u shouldnt be owning reptiles!!!!

well this is a reptile forum and you post things about reptiles weather its a question or a caresheet......if you can't handle reading stupid post then don't join a website that has forums.......i've had a gecko for 3 months, this is why I ask so many questions, i'm doing my research

I would lean towards the NOT putting them in the same enclosure. Ive heard of hamster skinning each other due to territory and dominance. Id hate to see what the outcome of the defensive mode of the hamster would be if it suspected the Gecko to be a potential predator. I vote a definite No.

lol ok best one ive heard but no i dont think its a good idea either for 1 they both have teeth ,2 they could fight as a defence , and 3 u might end up with a very hurt pet weather its the hamster or gecko as the gecko could dislocate its tail which is not realy good but they use this as a way to distract the preditor they vibrate it so the preditor will go for that instead of the whole thing and there tail doesnt grow back to the full beauty as it was

you ever see a hamster bite? those guys are some nasty furry creatures. I compare them to Chatterbox from Hellraiser.

Yeah, Eric (well, both of them...) are right. I've actually seen two male guinea pigs that killed each other over food and sleeping arrangements. I've also been bitten by the little buggers and they don't seem to like to let go. I'd think that the "prey drive" might take over pretty quickly. Not something you'd want to try...I'm sure your gecko is perfectly happy hanging out with you instead. :)

you guys are being a little harsh here
I would also advise not letting them be out together but you guys are being rather insensitive I really don't think she wanted any harm for her animals but to find out if one another would attack if they both were out or something

The answer is no. I recommend that you read caresheets on both species before you think about getting any other animals. Forums are tools for those who have already done a basic amount of research and still have additional questions, not for those who have clearly not done any homework in the first place. Harsh or not, common sense is required here. You wouldn't put a cat and a bird together, would you? The same principle applies.

I've raised hamsters in the past. Male hamsters are housed individually or with females (I think, not 100% sure anymore). Male hamsters are especially territorial like male leopard geckos. I've seen hamsters fight each other, it's pretty brutal and bloody. I don't even want to imagine what it would do to a leopard gecko. Never seen leopard geckos fighting so I don't know if they're capable of defending themselves. So it's a big NO on introducing the hamster to the gecko.

@some people:

Yet I never see reason for such replies. Those are sillier than any question asked and do no justice to the level of the forum or communication in general.

It wouldn't be my choice to take care of an animal without any prior reading, but just yet I was in the reptile store and this guy in front of me bought two bearded dragons with the entire necessities without knowing scratch about them. The only thing a reptile vendor can do is tell as much as possible and give some good advice.

Same for the people here. Most you can do is giving good advice instead of venting your annoyance, right?

I'm only new here but I hope to get the same quality of answers as I've been getting over the past few weeks!! Because you all are a great lot of people who treat others as they would their animals :)

I think the rule of thumb is to NEVER mix exotic species. I mean, we all know a cat and a dog can live together, and sometimes maybe a rabbit and cat, but your talking about very very different animals.
You just should never mix at all, IMO even with different gecko species (Like I know some people think anoles can live with other geckos)
I have 2 hamsters, 2 rabbits, and 2 chinchillas and I will tell you this, once I had a small ball phyton escape (Which ended my snake keeping, I love my furry animals too much, even though this snake was too small to eat anything but the dwarf hamster I had, having an adult snake was too risky) and my chinchilla Valentine did some major damage (Ha they are not as helpless as you think)
I am sure it would be the same principal.

My Vote is No. You will never know what they will happen if they are put in together. Hamster may bite or hurt leopard gecko causing it to drop tail... Not A Good idea.

I agree that the two shouldn't be mixed.

Give Sandy a break though. At least he thought to ask before doing it. That isn't exactly something that is usually mentioned in care sheets or books.

You can learn a lot from these forums so don't let one bad experience turn you away!

lets just say that geckos are very squishy and that a rodent would have no trouble tearing it up. I have seen even opposite sexed rodents fight and kill each other. Introducing species together that are even from the same locale in nature is not a good idea. This will cause the gecko to be stressed and stress upon the rodent. i know it seems like a cute idea but you dont mix them at all, ever. also consider the bacteria and possible diseases that rodents carry. just dont do it and avoid it completely. to me its like introducing a ferret to a shark, probably not a good idea

Thanks and yes this isn't the kind of things you find in caresheets:happy:
