best place to get a leopard gecko

I've seen a leopard gecko at our local pet store, but not sure if it's the best place to get my first one.
I noticed a piece of wood in there house that had ants crawling on it and I thought that was kind of strange. I don't want ants in my house!
There's a chain pet store I can check out too, but again not sure about buying a leo from them.
Would a online vendor be best, I'm assuming that all the sponsors on this site on top of the line or they would not be allowed to be sponsors.
Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks.

Where is the classified section?
I can't see one.

I had a hard time finding it as well. If you look at the top of the forum you will see various tabs. This one will take you to the classifieds.

We have a reptile show coming the 10th/11th of april in NW florida so I am going to hold off buying anything until I check there. Everywhere I look I see leo geckos at 50$+ for the average and then you tack on another $50 for shipping. being new to reptiles in general, it's just hard for me to fathom paying more than 25$ for a lizard, and I want to get at least 5-6 of them since they are going in to a 55g, but at the same time i don't want to breed as I already have enough on my hands with young children :)

Good luck with your search. There are definitely a lot of vendors in the classifies here though that have some very nice geckos to browse through.

edit:

Daidra has some incredibly nice looking geckos and has talked with me a lot about them. She's definitely good people to talk to :)

Thanks for the classified link! I saw some of Daidra's leopards on there and they are beautiful. But being new to this hobby, I cannot justify that much expense to my husband!!

I'm having the -exact- same issue with my wife :)

Regarding your previous post, howdy neighbor! :) I am in Pensacola. The Repticon event is at the interstate fairgrounds. in fact let me pull up the weblink so you can see. I think it's 8$ for a 1day pass or 10$ for the 2day vip pass (you get in 1 hour earlier on the vip pass) and in to some extra raffles or something.

Repticon Pensacola April 10th/11th

There that is. I'm just as new to the hobby as you are.. we don't even have any reptiles at this point. Still window shopping and and trying to see what exactly is what,

A good way to check the reputation of breeders that are members of this site is by clicking the iTrader rating (the number in the parentheses under their member name and info). It's sort of like the feedback system on ebay.

There are a lot of great breeders in Florida so you should have lots of geckos to choose from!

!

they're all in the tampa/jacksonville/miami areas though :p Makes it hard to even schedule a pickup as driving back and forth is more expensive on gas than shipping would be. I think it's a 10hr drive to the tampa area for me.. probably about 9 hours for Pugmommie. Locally, there are just none that I have at least found who breed leopards within a drivable distance. And like she said, we both have spouses who aren't particularly fond of the price tags leo's seem to carry. Hopefully repticon has some decent leopard gecko breeders. I've found 2 bearded dragon breeders who are well know and plan to be there... so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Hopefully Pugmommie will be able to come in to town and see if she's able to find something as well.
