Hi Guys,

I have my gecko arriving on Wednesday... eeeeek

It is my first one and I'm getting nervous.

It has just popped up that my vivarium is too big! 30 gallons.

What size housing should I put it in and for how long? Can I get get a big lunchbox, punch holes in it, put some egg tubs in and call it a home?

Also, as for food I have Repashy's Crested Gecko Diet. Is that ok?

Any other tips?

Thanks
JM

Congrats on your crestie by the way i have one too. funny little things.
Repashy's Crested Gecko Diet is great as it comes as a base form then you can add flavours to it. mine loves banana :)

Crested Geckos are arboreal, so you want to go for taller enclosures rather than wide (long is for leopard geckos that don't climb). Give them plenty of things to climb on and hide in. They'll most likely be way up to as high as they can get, rather than burrowed in down below. That's why the length of the tank doesn't matter as much as the height of the tank.

Repashy's crested gecko diet will do just fine. You can occasionally feed them crickets and such to mix things up for them. Good luck, and breath in, breath out :D

A 10 gal set on the end so it's upright, screen facing front, will be fine. As Mardy said, plenty of climbing and hide places are needed. The 30 is definitely too large.

thanks for the help guys.

I have just order small brown crickets, calcium powder and the large Exo Terra Faunarium. I already have Repashy CGD coming =)

That should do until it's 4 months =)

thanks again, and sorry for putting this in the wrong section =(

Should be fine.

As for the tank maybe you can create a divider of some sort to possibly cut back on the size until the new gecko has time to grow into it? All's I used is 2 pieces of cut to fit plexi-glass (2 pieces for stability, especially when they like to be buggers and play with it) and the mini damage free hooks http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FKDEGW/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B002XJJLKQ&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0AQKX797281ZDVD5QZV6 (so they are removable later). Just make sure your plexi-glass is snug and you have the hooks right up against the glass on all 4 corners on both sides so it doesn't move save for a little bit. Works like a charm for my 20 gallons and the whole project comes to like 5 bucks. All of this stuff you can get at Lowe's, plus they'll cut the plexi-glass for you if you take in the exact mesurements.

Hope this helps! I'd post pics of mine, but go figure my camera battery is dead.
