Potato Chips

So it seems like geckos are like potato chips and you can't have just one. My son was given Alice just a month ago and I've already bought one for myself too. And now I really want a beardie. So is it possible to have only one. Does anyone on here have only one? I know there are a fair few breeders on here, did you just start as a kid and add on? I need to know where this infatuation is going, we're moving (again) and I'm wondering how much reptile space I should factor in :main_laugh:.

Lol. Whenever I move, I just look for a spare room for reptiles only :p My next house, I may need two lol. For beardies though, you're more likely to only get one if you're getting them as babies. They eat a lot more and require a lot more maintenance than a Leopard Gecko does. They're also more expensive in terms of providing UVB, big enough tank, higher temps and all of the food that they'll eat as babies. If it's your first beardie ever, I suggest getting an adult. Much much easier than a baby :p

Thanks GeckoCrossing. I"m looking at an adolescent (I think about 6 months old) hypo leatherback. I know feeding them as babies can cost a fortune because they eat like pigs! They do sound like much more work but the fact that they like to be held and pet (which neither of my leos like at all) makes them so appetizing to bring home.

Bearded dragons are very expensive potato chips. Although most people I know who can afford it keep more than one. They're very active in the daytime which is probably why they are so attractive, and they are a very nice way to step up in difficulty from nocturnal geckos.

I have just one beardie they seem not as addicting because they take so much more money and work. I love mine though amazing pets!

Me and my boyfriend just got our leopard gecko, and he's already thinking of a bearded dragon! They do require more care, heat and space, but I'll think we'll wait until we have more experience, space and money before we go ahead and think of buying one. :) Kirsty x
