Sammy had to take a stroll while her cage mates had dinner with out her tonight :( Poor Sammy.. She laid eggs two days ago and still looks like a beefy gal.

OMG, so excited! I finally got Amoré to eat some superworms! I'm hoping he develops a taste for these, as they are essentially like mealworms but meatier.

My previous experiments in diet variety, ReptiWorms and butterworms, were a complete bust with him. Even after multiple trials over a few weeks, he seems to despise them and only eats the bare minimum of food when I only offer those. I have accepted that geckos, like people, like and dislike certain foods...

Congrants on the superworms! I have a gecko I would like to put weight on, he is not a good hunter but also not a very greedy one..

A couple weeks ago I picked up two suction cup shower soap dishes for extra ledges in my garg's terrarium. For her tank, I put moist moss in. She hasn't used it yet so far as I can tell. Since I had two, I put the other in Leto's. Leto's has some non-slip liner so he can grab on to it with his toes for climbing. As you can see, Leto is quite pleased with his. He uses it as a watch tower of sorts for keeping a close eye on the goings on in the room. :)

I know right? Leto continues to use his way more than my gargoyle gecko does.

Hope your leos dig their's too. :main_yes:

I got Nix a nice big cerimac cave for the cool side of her tank. She loves it!! She would never hang out on that side of the tank. I had a cool whip tub there and I guess she didn't feel secure enough in it. She took to hanging beside her log on the warm side when she was too warm.
since I got the cave I notice she hangs out in it for awhile.

Sausage should be more nice to his wife! I hope they went though some marriage counseling and Sausage has his anger management under control now.

they are divorced and she put a restraining order on him.
she healed fantastically though, there was talk at one point that the vet was going to put her to sleep as the healing process was really slow. she was the vets guinea pig as they had never seen a leo with such severe injuries that had survived. Shes all better now :)

Yay, temp gun! Have fun taking the temperature of EVERYTHING for the next few weeks... :)

Isn't that the truth? haha. I use mine not only for the gecko tanks but also for picking strategic locations for my mealworms and crickets and various other edible critters. I was shocked and amazed to find out the shelving in my furnace room maintains a consistent temperature gradient from bottom to top (top shelf is always a few degrees warmer than bottom).

Today I sorted though my 1,000 meal worm order and put all the ones turning into bettles into a breeding ben, They turned super fast and I did not get to feed as many as I would have liked, should of put half in the fridge.

It feels good to get my meal worm colony up and going..

Update!

Leto is doing fine and dandy. Continues to grow and I'm thinking he may have a little bit of giant in him.

Today's update involves a little DIY project that I originally intended for my garg and crestie. I was looking in to auto-misters just to see what the feasibility of such a system would be, cost/benefit, etc. Seems to be if you want one that works you need a good one and of course a good one is a little pricey. And then I stumbled on DIY fogger systems, which are not ideal for rhacs as they don't leave good drinkable droplets of water on the decor for the geckos to drink. But! They look cool. And coolness is important! For funsies!

And so I made a very low output fogger with a 4hour mini humidifier and vinyl tubing. And it turned out to be much too low output to be effective for the rhac's tanks and their humidity requirements. But, i had an idea. The one thing about my maintenance routine for Leto I have wanted to streamline is the humidifying of the moist hide. My sprayer is way too strong to stick in the moist hide while Leto is inside, might as well run a garden hose in to the entrance of the damned thing. So, remoistening the moist hide means I do have to take the whole container out of the tank to do so. Now, as it turns out, my little fogger is perfect to remoisten the interior of the moist hide without disturbing the resident gecko inside. Leto did wake up and take notice of the vinyl tube but, much to my amusement, started licking the condensation off the end of it.

Will see about putting together a fitting on the lid of moist hide so that I can attach hose from the top as opposed to setting it in the main entrance. Will post pics once I'm satisfied with this completely frivolous moist hide humidifying gizmo I have made.

Exciting day! I pulled out a dozen or so mealworms from our 100 mealie stash and put them in a cup to warm up, along with some fancy commercial calcium gutload that came with him in the adoption. I will say, the commercial stuff is so easy to use, and the mealies go nuts for it. I'll enjoy it while it lasts though...not sure I'll keep up the funds for it in the future.

Anyway, hopefully a dozen large mealies is enough for 2 days worth, so they're currently gut loading and getting ready to serve for later tonight and Thursday. I actually creepily found it satisfying to watch the mealies nom their gutload..."fatten up, my pretties!"

Then I picked up a pile of poo, and did a brief wipedown of the aquarium sides with vinegar and water (1-9 ratio). This spiked Mardu's curiosity, as he wandered out to do some tongue flicking where I had wiped it down (made me feel better to use a non-toxic cleaner!). I thought this would be a good time to work on some hand-training, where I simply left my hand flat on the tank's floor and waited (about 5 minutes) for him to wander over. I thought it was hilarious how he wandered over to every single OTHER part of his cage, giving my hand the cold shoulder, I think trying to see what it would do.

But he did eventually come over, flicked his tongue on me a few times, and even walked across my hand twice (though didn't get his whole body on there, just his right side). While he's my first gecko, I'll assume this is a good sign! Fiance' is anxious to handle him, so I think our hardest part will be getting HIM to be so patient and wait for Mardu to approach, rather than grab for him.

This should happen in time, right? I've had lots of other small pets before (mice, rats, gerbils, even a hedgehog) and this seemed to work well. Hopefully Mardu will agree and enjoy coming out to play one day :). He certainly doesn't seem skittish of the concept for now!

Today, I'm updating my pictus gecko tank! :) I have a breeding pair, but he's been chasing her around lately and not letting her come out of their hide that they share :( they're in a ten gallon, so I'm going to get a 20 long and put a divider down the middle :) I'll put a small heating pad in each corner. And pictus geckos are only about 4 1/2 - 6 inches big so they don't take up much room :) really excited about this!!

Yep, they get increasingly brave once they're comfortable with you. My crested gecko, despite being the newest gecko to my house, is also by far the most bold when it comes to interaction with me. Open the door late at night and he gets all excited, tongue flicking all over the place, climbs right on to my hand and up my arm, seems disappointed when I put him back in. :main_rolleyes:

That's adorable! I hope Mardu complies. He is very curious and not very shy, so I think he will enjoy it once he realizes he needs us to take him there! lol.
