I have a chance to get a tokay gecko. It is a big one about 8 inches long and not very friendly. Any info on this breed of geckos?

When I was a kid my brother had one. And that thing would jump all the way across his 55 gallon tank just to try and get me. That thing sure was scary. lol

Very scary.

Sometimes when I go to this other pet store, I would walk past their tokays. They would lunge at me and all I did was walk past them.

I would get a Tokay. Just try to tame it down, lol. Even if you couldn't, they're beautiful geckos. :main_yes:

I love watching ours at night. We haven't really handled her though. She barks at us whenever we try to touch her. But she's fun to look at.

I have actualy seen a tokay bite a clothe towl and not let go for hours. Eventualy it had to be held under water till it let go of the towel to get some air. they are evil. lol

If you really like tokays NERD has some that are hand tame. Here's a link to them at the Daytona Expo last year: http://youtube.com/watch?v=k_rbbWU5KR4 at about 6:35 they start talking about tokays and he even picks some up to show you how tame they are. That being said my brother had one that was the meanest thing ever. I wouldn't suggest them for beginners at all.

Some people on youtube make me laugh, they were crying about a tokay eating a pinky...

But people have to keep in mind how sensitive a tokay geckos skin is, so even if they don't bite you really shouldn't handle them.

hes mad chill really! my lil girl is 2 years old and doesnt have any problem touching and holding him... as far as the skin... personal experience i havent found there skin to be any more sensitive then any other normal healthy gecko... mine gets handled almost daily and ive yet to see a problem :)

my thoughts are this... even if its mean, if it needs rescueing do it... just dont plan on handleing em... just cuz of his nature doesnt mean he doesnt deserve to live... JMO...

Wow Bill, that's really cool that yours is so mellow!

We used to have a roach and mouse problem at an old apartment thanks to filthy neighbors. We got a Tokay to alleviate the problem. He was probably the most well fed Tokay ever! LOL And he was not friendly. We couldn't catch him to bring him to the new house so we explained to the new tenant why he was there and he was cool with it.
