UTH with Plastic Rack system

Hi guys!

I posted this in the housing section but no one responded.

So here it goes :

I'm addicted and I want to get more Leo's! (I currently have one Gecko in a 10 gallon with an UTH . I don't have enough room for more tanks and want something that will conserve space)

I have a plastic set of drawers you can buy at Target or Walmart. It is the one with wheels and has three drawers. (Pic below)

If I use an UTH on the bottom of one of the drawers will it cause a fire? If so what should I use? Could I put the UTH on the back of one of the drawers or is Belly Heat needed?

Thanks!

It looks similar to this :

A drawer system is not the same thing as a rack system. If the gecko escaping issue can be solved, then there are heat issues. If drawer units were good for housing reptiles, people would be using them instead of investing countless dollars and time for DIY racks or purchasing reptile housing racks.

But to answer your question, no the heat from the uth (90*-95*) will not start a fire. That would be like saying your hand could start a fire from your body temp.

Pretty sure I already stated this in your OTHER thread as this being a bad idea, but hey I guess you are still going with it. As I had already stated there was an escape some weeks back (which happened to be Beezy's) while using this system. Others on this forum have tried this, same luck. Have you used the search option like I had suggested in your other thread when you asked about the same idea? Chances are no...

Be careful with the UTH heat pad. I have used those for years on different setups and most get hotter then 95. I currently have 6 stuck to 16"x16" ceramic tiles to displace the heat. But even through that and a one inch air gap between the tile and the bottom of each sterilte i was getting up to about 107. Used a dimmer/temp controler to bring it down to 94. If you go the real DIY racks dont use UTH's use cable or heat tape. Cheaper in the long run.
