Hi! Id really like to set up a really cool and natural tank for my AFT tail geckos, its a 40 gallon exo terra, and im wondering if the clay would be bad with the needs of high humidity for them?

Could i just do most of the back ground and have the front being a mixture of play sand and coco fiber to hold the moisture?

Would i just be better using indoor/outdoor mat and a normal 3D background? i really want a nice natural tank though.

As long as the substrate is packed and you're not using lights to heat the tank it should be fine. They need a good moist hide 24/7 but other than that the substrate shouldn't matter too much.

Alright thank you for the reply! So as long as ive got a moist hide it will completely fine, or do AFT geckos need the ambient humidity levels to be very high?

Nope they don't need ambient levels any higher than leopard geckos. Mine live in racks in exactly the same setup as my leopard geckos and do 100% fine. I don't think higher humidity is good for their respiratory systems long term anyhow so I wouldn't try to keep it high.

O good thing you told me that lol i read somewhere that the AFT humidity requirements would cause respiratory problems with leopard geckos. Alright thank you for your thoughts!!
