Updates:

- I now consider it a good substrate alternative to those of you who wants a natural look for your gecko's tank without the need to make a bioactive one.
- NEVER, ever pour water directly into it (sorry i did that before and i had no reason why lol). It causes the finer particles to expand and the bigger grains to crumble and 'melt' (remember it is a type of clay after all) and makes the surface smoothen out like the top of brownies. Also, makes the substrate a bit smudgy and may cause an unsightly but rather safe stain.
- a simple misting (only if needed) maintains the natural, rugged look.
- keep it dry at all times, if possible.

I've watched a few of my geckos take a taste one time and i saw them hate it. Imagine the face of a picky kid who just ate some veggies lol.. They never bothered tasting again ever since (hence avoiding impaction issues).

I've used pure laterite/lateritic clay soil with my leos, skinks, tarantulas, scorpions, snakes and hermit crabs. I would only recommend it for semi-arid/desert-type enclosures though it can be mixed with a lot of different other substrates to produce other results :)
