Hello. I'm a busy mom of 4 (three boys, 6, 4, 2 and one girl, 3 months old). After a summer of catching frogs, toads and salamanders, my eldest son (turning six soon) really wanted a lizard. I did the research and became fascinated with leopard geckos. We got Dash from someone off of kijiji and immediately fell in love. Now in our house we have 3 fish, 1 black lab, 1 Indian Ringneck parakeet, 1 cat, Dash and a bunch of crickets and mealworms. Our whole family is fascinated with Dash, and he does not seem to be nearly as shy as I expected. If we put our hand in his terrarium, he comes over almost immediately to inspect and usually crawl all over it. The kids are really good with animals and know that they are not to open the lid unless an adult is there. We changed his home around (substrate, additional hides, etc) and changed his food from straight supers to a combo of gutloaded mealworms and crickets - he didn't seem to know how to hunt at first, but now he's a champ. I'm wondering if he wasn't a bit underweight when we got him - he seemed a lot thinner than a lot of pictures I've seen and has now shed twice in the last three weeks as he's plumping up nicely. His sheds make me nervous - he has a moist hide, and so far has shed cleanly both times, but I monitor him closely nonetheless. We're feeding him daily as he'll be a year in November and he seems hungry all the time. So, hello and thanks for all of the great info I've picked up so far. :D
