Hi there guys!
I'm a 21 year old veterinarian student, new to geckos but not to reptiles.
I used to own a ball python, a corn snake and a rainbow but unfortunately had to sell them upon my entry to college. Now all I own is my 2 year old, white out morph corn snake and my two aquariums.
I received a 1 year old Crested Gecko from a concerned mother whose child was not taking care of the gecko. She informed me that she did not see food or water in the cage for several weeks maybe more and the kid wasn't misting the cage like he usually did a month or so back. Lost interest. She dropped the cage off at my house as I'm their local part time vet, telling me the thing looked dead and she didn't want it.
The cage is a 20 gallon long it was filled with water stains, black moldy paper towels, the cage smelling of feces and rot. There was a single branch, some pens, and some tacks oddly enough. The gecko was skinny, with noticeable pelvis and femur bones. He had a really bad cut under his arm which I treated with good ole neosporin. He also had no noticeable calcium sacs.
Now a couple weeks later after treating him with a fruit smoothie (mangoes, papayas, blueberries, honey, cantaloupe) mixed in with his repashy super foods diet. I am also treating him with zoomed calcium with vitamins with crickets, gut fed.
Now I present to you his new vivarium, a tree house. It is complete with three exits, a removable roof, a couple of perches and a hammock. I created it with Popsicle sticks, non toxic hot glue, and sprayed the thing with a waterproofing non toxic kryon spray. Unfortunately because of bad diet he can no longer stick to things naturally and this way everything is close and he can instead use his prehensile tail and toes to get around.
