Hello all! My name is Alex, but everyone calls me Z / Zee, and I'm an aspiring gecko breeder living in Hamilton Ontario, Canada! :)

I joined on recommendation of another breeder after basically learning that I was about to ruin my reputation by trying to breed two geckos I don't know the bloodlines of - I was unaware that this was a big "no-no" in the breeder community, as my local groups sell a LOT of babies with unknown lineage. :c

Oddly enough, turns out the male / female pair I adopted are both female anyway! The previous owner claims only one has laid and the "male" mates with the "female", but at this point I'm certain they're both female after close inspection. They'll need to be fed up, but I have good homes likely lined up for both of them with trustworthy friends once they're healthy. ^^

Anyway, I'm here to basically dig up as much info on "professional" gecko breeding as possible, as well as various other less-common care info!

Welcome to GF! I was a gecko breeder (for 13 years) until my colony became infected with crypto. If you can, have new geckos tested for cryptosporidiosis so you won't end up in my situation. Breeding geckos was very rewarding and I will miss it. Enjoy!

Thanks! :) I have heard of crypto before and will be keeping a close eye on any of the animals I obtain in the future for symptoms, as well as quarantining new animals for a few months (AKA: Diligent washing after handling a new animal before I go to the next!). I'm also thinking about keeping my adults in separate 15gal enclosures, as opposed to having multiple females in the same enclosure and only keeping males separate - I figure this will make it easier to ensure my geckos aren't stressed, as well as help prevent the spread of any sudden infections should they arise!

Welcome! Yes, definitely take your time to learn about the various traits and genetics behind them. Not only will it help your reputation in the long run, it will help you make better pairing choices to produce the offspring you're looking for.

This site is a good place to start:

Thanks! I've also been linked this by another local breeder. ^^ I've been spending a lot of time reading through facebook groups, lol.
