Hello everyone! Good to meet everyone. I am very glad I found this site as I have oh so many questions for everyone and so much to learn.

Firstly let me quickly explain how I became a Gecko owner (leopard Gecko). Someone I know bought this lil guy as a pet. This person lived with someone else (he rented out a room there) The guy then ended up moving and left the gecko behind. I would say he had only owned it himself for maybe 3 weeks before he moved. I remember seeing it when he bought it, it was a small little guy so Im guessing pretty young. However he did look fairly healthy. His tail was not hugely fat by any means, but it did have some gerth to it.

Now when he moved and left the Gecko behind over there I had no idea. The person he was renting the room from contacted me about 3 weeks after he was gone and informed me the gecko was still there and they had done nothing with it :-( so no feeding it, watering it, cleaning cage etc.. :-( So I rushed right over and picked it up. His tail no longer had any gerth to it, it was rather skinny obviously.

It took me a couple days to get it to start eating again (Meal worms) I have now had it for about two weeks and the lil guy is eating reguarly for me now, however still hasnt seemed to put a lot of gerth on. Especialy in the tail cause that part of him still remains rather skinny and it is my understanding that its suppose to be pretty fat. Maybe I am hoping for to much to quick? Maybe it takes a while?

I will post some pictures later to show the condition of the lil guy and to introduce him to everyone :)

Anyways I guess I have gone into a lot of detail for this an "introduction" post, but wanted to give a lil back ground.
I will post more of my questions and concerns etc it the proper forums...

I will close this post however by saying I am now HOOKED and have totaly fallen in love with this little guy and am already thinking about my next gecko lol.. But have much to learn before I take on anymore responsibilities of these wonderful little creatures

Welcome to GF! It's good that your new "accidental gecko" is eating for you. If you want, read the caresheets at the top (click on articles/caresheets) for a range of information about how to care for them. Sometimes after a person has gotten the basics down it's good to re-read the caresheet to pick up the finer points. Keep asking questions (I'll go back to your other post about feeders and try to respond) and you'll become an expert (and probably owner of more than one gecko) in no time.

Thanks for the Welcome acpart!! I absolutely will go read those caresheets. I want to learn as much as possible. Like I said I have become very attached to this little fella and am really looking forward to adding some more to my "collection" in the future when I learn more about them.

I want to get to the point to where I can breed them etc.. And want to be able to breed/raise my own feaders as well IE: Meal Worms..

I have sooo much to learn first though.

I can tell you from just a few weeks of being addicted to not only this forum but leopard geckos that you will learn ALOT in a very short amount of time. the best way is to read the most replied to threads and see whose information is valued by the members and take that into consideration. this forums members are really good at telling you their experience level before responding. Also, keep in contact with more than one area of the forum like the health section, breeding, housing, etc. and that will give you more specific information. All of my questions have been answered so far without having me post a new thread and I think after more in depth research in this forum you will find that as well. good luck and know everyone is here to help!

At the risk of tooting my own horn, there is also a lot of good information about geckos in general but also leopard geckos at www.geckotime.com. I'm one of the editors and many of the articles I either solicit or write myself are in response to things that get asked about over and over (like "why isn't my gecko eating").

Welcome to GF! I have had my Leo a little over a year now and just a couple weeks ago I came across an African Fat-Tail that needed a little extra love... that's when I joined this site and I tell you I am one to read read read. I have many Leo books but most of what I have learned (besides regular husbandry/habitat) has been right here on this site. The people here are extremely friendly and very helpful! I'm sure you will love it here! And good luck with your new little friend seems like you are already off to a good start!
