Hi, My name is April. I'm 32 years old, married with kids. I bought my first gecko at the Columbus, OH show a couple of weeks ago. I had done my research first before purchasing him, he wasn't an impulse buy. I also have 3 ball pythons, a hog island boa, Greek tortoise, dog, cat, and a fish tank.
It was very difficult picking out my first gecko. There were so many different kinds and prices. I went with a tremper albino jungle leopard male from Cap City reptiles. I believe he has a carrot tail too if I have the terminology correct. He was hatched in July of 2010. I have him in a rack system with heat tape and thermostat, humid hide, other hides, plastic plants, rocks, calcium/vitamin powder, and on paper towels (to be switched to tiles after he is more settled). I offer him 10 mealworms per day. He eats all or most of them each day. They are kind of smallish mealworms. He didn't eat for the first week, but now eats every day.
I pick him up and hold him for a few minutes every other day. I talk to him and look at him daily so he sees I am not something that wants to eat him. Honestly, I have better things to eat than a little ole gecko . He doesn't appear to be terrified of me, just would rather not be held. So I think he is doing well so far on that.
His name is Rorschach because his spots look like the ink blot test. We call him Rory for short.
