First off, i haven't been around in probably a year or 2 so, hi.

My GB king girl has fallen ill lately. Her mouth developed some sort of infection last week, the lower jaw's gum tissue looked very swollen and red and it kept her lower jaw flared out. I have an appointment with the exotic vet on monday and he agreed it sounded like she got an infection somehow, however, it doesn't appear to be mouth rot or respiratory. There is no discharge or bubble and no squeaks or wheezing.

Earlier this week it seemed to have gone down a bit and being dumb like I am, i decided to feed her. She hadn't eaten for about a month prior due to shedding (I feed every 2 weeks, she was starting shed when i went to feed her, and finished about a week or so later). She ate 2 medium sized mice, i regular feeding for her, with little issue, though she did hesitate at first to bite them.

The reason i'm posting is because she just threw them up. Now, i know there is a difference between regurgitation and vomiting, but it's been 3 days and I can still see fur/tails on the mice. It looks like they weren't digesting well at all, and smelled about the same (i wish snake vomit on no one, i'll be sleeping on the couch tonight).

I'm going to do my best to get her into the vet tomorrow morning now. Until then, i was wondering if anyone could tell me how bad it is exactly that my snake decided to vomit her meal from a few days prior. If there is anything to do as well.

Things went great. She was seen as a pocket pet and the fee was $51. Unfortunately, she has a calcium deficiency and her jaw is very soft. As it turns out, the full spectrum lights actually wear out after 6 months or so, even though they stay on. She hasn't been getting enough UV to process calcium. On top of that she has a nasty bacterial infection from where she damaged her already sensitive mouth and got infected. It has caused a few tissues to grow in her mouth and they can burst. The doc helped out big time though.

I give an oral beytril every other day
I swap clorhex daily to dry out and shrink the growths
i'm getting a better full spec bulb and moving her to the window
She is also going to need small pinky feeders for a while until her jaw gets better, he said i could actually dip the back legs in a bit of cal+

He's also running a stool sample in the labs to be sure. The total cost was only $151, which was much to my surprise.

Wow, I'm glad you got so much help. Did he know why she became calcium deficient? From what I know (admittedly, not a lot), snakes don't usually need a lot of vitamin supplements.

Just be aware that moving closer to the window will not help with UVB, as glass filters it out. If you're going to need UVB, you'll just have to get a new UVB bulb every 6 months.

Good luck with her treatment! Sounds as though you found a decent vet to work with.

Glass filters it out, but a screen won't. I'm going to leave it open for an hour or two a day should the weather permit. Still getting a new bulb as well. Apparently snakes need full spectrum to process calcium and this is something i never knew. I know leo's need sups but i didn't realize snakes need full spec. I'm supplementing her now to help with the calcium issue, it won't be a forever thing. She can't eat at all right now and i'm going to have to wait another week or two before i try her on something small. Until then it's oral beytril, which he says the fluid it's mixed into is a nutrient boost (chicken flavored too XP) and the clorhex, which she HATES because i have to rub it on the growths with a little pressure. Speaking of which, i have to go do her first dose now(this will be interesting)
