What is the smallest kind of snake that is good for beginner snake owners?

(Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I'm not very good at classifying where things should be put.)

Thanks in advance!

Corn snakes make excellent first snakes. They will grow up to around 5 feet in length over the course of their life. They are very hardy and non aggressive.

There are several that are smaller, but I think corns make for a perfect first snake.

I have a male Western Hognose that is very fun and relatively small about 3 ft; 150grams) . He's curious and docile and I would think he would make a good beginner snake - at least its the only snake other than corns that I've owned :)

For small size I was going to say western hognose snake....a male. But I agree with the others, the corn snake is a great snake to start with.
