Ok, new here but i am guessing this question comes around alot but anyhow its about what kind of substrate to use for collared lizard.

I hear calci sand is bad, so people tell me to get play sand, then i read that's bad, then i read all kind of sand is bad for them. I really don't know what to use now. i was going to get play sand but......

Maybe some kinda vinyl tiles? or even dam sand paper? hey! its sand clued down to paper, surely its gotta work? lol

The lizard am guessing is about a year old but to be honest i don't know.

here's a pic but don't know if you can tell age form it?

YES! that is calci-sand, that pic was taken the 1st day i got him, and i didn't know it was bad at the time.

I just bought a new vivarium, 36x18x18, heat lamp at top, UV light, ect

going to use an inferred 75W head bulb for day/night heat on a day/night dimming thermostat.

going to get a basking rock, sandstone if i can so that is absorbs the heat.

but apart from the add rock and maybe plants am going to leave alot of floor space from him to jump and run around.

dam i can talk! lol sorry, thought i would post as much as i could.

oh if you forgot the question is about the substrate :p

Sand is bad for LEOPARD GECKOS and other non desert lizards. SOme reptiles do perfectly fine with sand, it all depends on what kind of reptile it is and where it originates from.
