New gecko not eating

Hi

I got a new leopard gecko 4 days ago (about 5 months old) and on sunday it was interested in and ate about 7 mealworms which is what the reptile place recommended. Since then it has not been interested at all in food. 3 days on and she still hasn't eaten. She came out of her cave tonight and was wandering round so I put a wriggly worm right in front of her and she sniffed it and just walked off. I am leaving the worms in a dish but they seem to stop wriggling when you don't move them so she won't be interested in them will she?

I was leaving the heat pad on all the time-since then I rang the shop for advice and they told me it should only be on in the day and off at night so Ive switched it off at night. Any suggestions? Im getting a bit worried. Is it the smell of them? Ive gut loaded the worms with carrot and sprinkled them with calcium powder. How long can they go without food?

Thanks
Anna

Welcome to GF. I have moved your thread to the correct sub-forum. Please check in the future to make sure you're posting in an appropriate sub forum (in this case, it should be in the leopard gecko section).

The heat should be on all the time 24/7 because the gecko needs belly heat to digest. The gecko can move to the cooler side if it needs less heat (pet shops often have the wrong information).

It is not unusual for a gecko to not eat for quite awhile. At 5 months, a good sized gecko is getting to the point where it doesn't eat as much or as often. keep offering. Try crickets if you want. Don't worry unless the gecko's tail starts getting much thinner, in which case you'll need a reptile vet visit.

This was still showing up under general site questions, so I moved it to leopard gecko general care and husbandry. It should hopefully show up there now.
