Well, my vacation had started off on a bad note, but things are looking up. I've gotten some great pics of the local herps.

Here's the Gopher Tortoise (Gopherus polyphemus) I was hoping I'd find her on the inside of the fence, and maybe catch her at her hole, but she never seems to be there. If she has any eggs laid they should hatch sometime this month or next. Would like to be able to catch a glimpse of the babies.

Now this little stinker had me fooled at first of his ID until I was able to look at the photos I took. He was very quick and I was able to get a video of him eating ants. My first guess was a Fived Linned Skink as I was taking the pics, but after viewing the images I noticed he had too many lines, he's a Six-Lined Racerunner (Cnemidophorus sexlineatus).

When I first came up on this guy he ran toward the fence and I was not able to take a picture. I stood there a min and I noticed he came back to where he was a first and I got the above pics. Then I noticed that he was eating the ants that I had scared him away from. He acted as he could care less that I was there and all he wanted to do was eat.
The video is not all that great on Photobucket but you'll get the idea.

Here's the Five-Lined Skink (Eumeces fasciatus) The little stinker wouldn't come out all the way so I could get his tail in the picture. I've found a lot of them around here ranging in size from hatchling to adult, but they are very fast and hard to catch on camera. I remember catching these as a child in Miami, I don't remember them being this fast!?!?!?!

Yes, I'm having so much fun looking for all these critters. My cousin on the other hand, is board since she sees these guys all the time. All these herps were found on her property. Ventured out to look for some herps and found nothing. We will be going to a sanctuary sometime soon, where I should be able to get a lot of pictures of different herps. Also her boyfriend's uncle is a taxidermist and has lots of bones, and may even have a gator skull for me. (gator season starts next week (?) not too happy about it but they are out of control in some areas, I guess just like the deer near me sometimes it just has to be done.)

Cool! Looks like fun!

I think a gator skull would be cool. I have an odd fasination with skulls, yet I don't have any....except for a dragon skull which is obviously not real. Gregg has a good skull collection if I remember correctly.

More pics from the trip!

Yellow Rat Snake (Elaphe obsoleta quadrivittata) ???? Did I ID this one right??? There were a few rat snakes to chose from, but I think I got it right.

For those of you that can view the video at the top, notice the top left corner there are three eggs in a duck nest, I'm thinking he may have been after these, as there was one missing egg and by the time I went home there were two missing eggs. This is also on my cousin's property. Also turn up the volume and listen to Missy's younger sister freaking out over the snake that is going to eat us.....LOL.
