Field herping is my first and foremost love, in the world of reptiles. Hope to be able to wow you guys with some field photos every now and again. I hope there are others on this board who will share also.

So far this year I've had lousy luck here in Pa. All I've seen so far is a couple of northern water snakes.

I love Feild herping! I often don't even have to go far either. When it's really sunny there will be five lined skinks basking on my porch. I have seen fence lizards on trees in my yard. and the other day I found a very large millipede.

I have seen sevarl snakes including water Moccasins By the lake not far from were I live.

Well i found about 230482039582305823509820 american toad babies, and 234098 garter snakes. Not too many other herps in illinois.

Glad to hear there are folks that enjoy seeing reptiles in the native habitat they come from. An alterna or other snake in a deli cup just does not give you a real picture of why they are what they are as far as coloration and habits. I will look forward to posts of the animals you find.

Good Luck,

John Cherry:main_thumbsup:

Cherryville John? Welcome to Kelli's site. I wish I've seen an alterna in something other than a deli cup, or my breeder/hatchling racks:( . For my life list wants, it's in the top 10, but I've only been out to Tx. (other than passing through) just twice in my 30 years of field herping. Couldn't agree more though about seeing them in thier native habitiat, field herping was, and is, my first and foremost when it comes to herps. Like many, herpteoculture came quite a bit later.

i wish i could feild herp better but because of my eyes and some of the native species we have around here it's not really the safest thing for me. there is a place down the road where russ has seen DOR baby WDB and he has found sheds of adults in the same area. last year in the lot that backs up to ours we found alligator lizards, texas spiny lizards, green anoles, house geckos, earth snakes, whip snakes, texas rats (real prety orange ones), checkered garters and some big green lizard we have yet to identify. oh and toads, i have a toad garden lol

It's very rare for me to see any snakes in the yard. On occassion we'll bump into a garder or 2. I jumped out of my shoes when I ran across this one while weeding out day lillies in the front yard. I respect snakes...from a good distance! Didn't stop me from running in for my camera though.
