...ARCTIC BLAST THIS WEEKEND INTO NEXT WEEK...

A SERIES OF STRONG COLD FRONTS WILL MOVE THROUGH WISCONSIN BEGINNING FRIDAY...ALLOWING SEVERAL SURGES OF BITTERLY COLD AIR TO OVERSPREAD WISCONSIN. THIS ARCTIC AIRMASS IS THEN EXPECTED TO RESIDE OVER SOUTHERN WISCONSIN THROUGH AT LEAST THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK. THESE FRIGID CONDITIONS WILL BE THE COLDEST TEMPERATURES OF THE SEASON...AND PERHAPS THE COLDEST TEMPERATURES IN THE PAST DECADE.

AT THIS TIME...THE COLDEST TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO OCCUR FROM SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH NEXT WEDNESDAY...WHEN LOW TEMPERATURES MAY FALL FROM 10 TO 20 DEGREES BELOW ZERO...WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES STRUGGLING TO GET OUT OF THE SINGLE DIGITS.

IN ADDITION TO THE COLD TEMPERATURES... DANGEROUS WIND CHILL READINGS OF 25 DEGREES BELOW ZERO OR COLDER WILL ALSO BE POSSIBLE AT TIMES.

BEFORE THIS BITTERLY COLD AIR ARRIVES LATE FRIDAY...ANY PERSONS OR INTERESTS SUSCEPTIBLE TO VERY COLD TEMPERATURES SHOULD BEGIN PREPARING NOW. ENSURE THAT YOUR FURNACE AND AUTOMOBILES ARE IN GOOD WORKING CONDITION...AND CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS FOR ADDITIONAL DETAILS ON THESE POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS CONDITIONS.

I am SO GLAD that I walk about a mile and a half each day on campus, which is fortunately on a big damn lake where it's so windy. [/sarcasm] It wasn't even this cold yesterday, and at one point I swore I was going to die right there on the sidewalk. I guess I'm just not cut out for living here. :main_angry: Maybe I'll get lucky and the car won't start before I leave the house.

Paul, do you go to Wisconsin? An old best friend of mine just got kicked out of there lol. I go to Northern Illinois so I'm not that far from you. Starting Friday we have highs of 15, 6, 8, 3, 9, 14. Wind chills below 0 every day. Lucky for the Bears the Superbowl is in sunny Miami.

Oh, and I'm not one of those clods who whines about the cold but doesn't dress for it. I frequently wear 4-5 shirts layered on top of one another underneath my winter jacket, hat/gloves/boots, and have been known to wear long underwear under my flannel-lined jeans.

I honestly don't understand how some people I see out when it's this cold have their coat unzipped over a single shirt with no hat on. Sometimes I wonder if living with so many reptiles has caused me to become ectothermic as well.

But it's only 2 1/2 weeks until NARBC in TEXAS! I know some of you Texans might be complaining about the cold, but hey, I'll take 40* any day over sub-zero temps.

I don't really "go" there; I've lived here my whole life. Oh duh, you probably mean do I go to UW. Yup. Right here in Madison. It's a great school ... in the summer.

Lemme guess you've been known to steal hot rocks from your geckos on the way out the door? Shame on you!!

We had a few days of those eyeball freezing temperatures. Nothing below zero without counting the windchill factor. Grab a lounge & the heat lamp, you'll make it through.

I feel so bad for you guys! I honestly think I'd stay inside my house if I read that. Lately with the wind chills it's hit single digit temps and was hoping my car would suck fumes long enough for it to warm up a bit before I would even think about stopping to get gas. I'm with Paul. I'm not meant for this type of weather and today we're expecting 2-4 inches of snow. I'll just cross my fingers and hope my new car is good in snow! Good luck guys!

Paul, if you get too cold just come on over. Robyn can make us some hot chocolate and maybe some cookies! Afterwards we can tuck you into one of our sweater box racks and let you warm up for a while.
I'm heading to Tenessee this weekend. I thought I might get a break from the cold, but it's supposed to be snowing down there! Argh! I'm so jealous of you and Jeremy!

Paul, probably a long shot, but do you know Jason Elkins?
Nope. Can't say that I do. On a campus of nearly 50K people, located in a town of roughly 1/4 million, I've realized that I know very very few people. lol

Hey Jason, that sweater box offer is starting to sound pretty good. I'm thinking I might have to order some of that 17" flexwatt and line my bed with it. I've been downstairs near the furnace now for at least a half hour, and the thing has been running constantly. Good furnace. Nice, pretty furnace, oh how I appreciate thee. lol

I'm glad I don't live in the far northern parts of WI or MN. Their temps are significantly worse than the ones here.

BRRRRRRRRRRRR............
It is going to be wind chill temps of 40 below here tonight
That is way too damn cold for me

I love my nice warm house and I agree with you 100% Paul-nice furnace-pretty furnace
A couple of years ago- I went the entire month of January and into February without a furnace and hot water
I used kerosene and electric heaters and I didn't have a problem with one lizard-thank God
BUT I would NEVER want to have to repeat that again
I dress very warmly and I ride my bicycle year round-as long as the streets are clean
But in weather like this I keep my nose in the house and only go out when my bf takes me to run errands

Keep warm everyone !!!

And

Think Spring !!!

I hear you Paul. I'm from Alabama and my wife is from Tennessee. Actually, I went to the University of Alabama and She went to the University of Tennessee (guess you could call it a mixed marriage)LOL.

Anyway, We have been in Milwaukee for almost two years. I think it might be time to move back South. Walking the two mini Dacshunds and the Weimeraner over by Lake Michigan in that wind is just brutal these days.

Just can't figure out why people choose to live up here long term. I must just not have the blood for it. Or I don't drink enough alcohol, not sure which it is.

Hang in there, it can't last forever.

Wow. You know, right now I'm really wishing that my fireplace worked. My dad had installed a gas log into what had been a wood burning fireplace several years ago and it quit working after a year. That would be a good back-up source of heat if the furnace or the power went out. I can't imagine going over a month without a furnace or hot water. Actually, I can't imagine going even a day without hot water. lol

Oh, and Sandy, my bike hasn't left the garage for two months. lol

Felicia, that's why I've spent almost all of today in the basement. I think this is the first time ever that it's been warmer downstairs than upstairs. Although I did have to go downtown today to the bookstore to pick something up for class next week. I parked illegally just so that I would only have to walk less than a block. That's when it was 4 degrees and sunny out.

Both Alabama and Tennessee sound pretty good right about now. I don't know how some dogs tolerate this cold either. My golden retriever has a much thicker coat than any doxie or weimer I've ever seen, and she won't even get off the back steps to go pee when it's this cold. :main_laugh:

As far as living here long term, I think it's a self-loathing complex common to the area. We enjoy suffering bitter dry cold in the winter, and suffocating high temps and humidity in the summer. If I could convince certain family members to move south, I'd be outta here as soon as I'm done with school.
