I just bought a used car from a cash only as is lot and I thought I did everything right I test drove it looked it over and everything. Well I drove it off the lot abd it seemed to be turning rough which I know is the power steering. I went to pick the kids up from school and then went to the auto store to get power steering fluid. I put it in and by the time I got home it was almost empty again! WTH! I called the place I bought it from and they basically told me I was out of luck. I am so mad and sad and clueless what I can do. UGH!

Since it's already after 5 on Friday, you may not be able to do anything until Monday. You might be able to make some email inquiries about the lemon law with some local attorneys.

If you bought it with the AS-IS stipulation there is not much you can do other than pay to get it fixed. I would come take a look at it but I am on the other side of the US. My main hobby is cars.

What kind of car is it? I could be as simple as a hose or something minor. Can you see where it is leaking from?

Lemon laws seldom cover used cars and if it was an as is sale she sadly has little to no recourse unless the dealer will help. The best thing to do when buying a used car is take it to a shop and spend the $50 they charge to do an inspection NEVER trust the selling dealer.

I had the same problem. I changed the hose and it was fixed. It could also be your pump. I suggest fix the hose first. If that don't work, it's the pump.

What kind of car? If I was there I could help you out, bad timing. 90% of the time its the large hose from the bottom of the power steering reservoir. It's an easy fix if thats all it is. Take a look around the reservoir (will have a red cap) at the hoses until you see the leak tracing the hoses. A leak means easy fix. If the fluid is still there then your pump is bad, which isnt super expensive anyways, roughly $50 for a used one. I could walk you through swapping it over the phone.

well I got in it and the ac isnt working now and there is a huge puddle under the car. I am thinking its a leak in the hose somewhere but have no clue about the ac. Thanks everyone! This is a lesson to everyone. NEVER buy as is!

Buying as is, is ok as long as you get a independent inspection or buy it from a 'name brand' dealer. I don't know what kind of places you have in FL. but if you can check with friends to see it they know any good repair shops. Don't just randomly pick one talk to friends and check the internet. I am really sorry you got screwed by on of 'those' dealers.

Is the puddle under the car clear? That could be condensation from the ac unit that was working. Hopefully you can find a place that can fix the problems for a reasonable price. I am happy to help if I can feel free to ask questions.

I have restored a number of classic cars and work on friends and families cars, I don't know everything but I will try to help as much as I can.

I bought it from a dealership that my uncle has bought cars from in the past with no problem. I was kind of in a bind as I got a new job so I needed a new car and I went with the first one I liked and that was in my price range. They wouldnt let me take it off the lot to a mechanic. I should have had someone to go with me though. This is just a life lesson. The puddle is not clear its dark.

I belive the lemon law applies to ANY stealership. no matter the size.

as is is only between individuals.

how ever i dont think a power steering leak would justify a lemon. since technially power steering is an option.

what kind of car is it?

Its a 2001 Nissan Maxima. I got the power steering fixed ($200 later) and still have no ac but that can be fixed later when I have extra money. It is a nice day out and I hope it stays this way lol

and the car saga continues. Apparently its not just the hose but the pump too which means even more $$$ who needs a car??? I wish I lived in NYC so I could just walk everywhere.
