People Thinking This is about their feelings

It is unbelievable. This is a forum about the well being of geckos and several other animals. Are people so sensitive today that we have to hold their hand everytime we give constructive criticism? I mean come on. Grow up(this goes for young and older people). Unfortunately we almost have to always criticize new gecko owners because of all the false information in the pet stores these days. There is just no reason to get upset over someone trying to better your gecko's husbandry.

I'm so glad not everyone here is oversensitive and whiny. People get so easily offended, and it's bloody irritating. A correction is not a personal attack, no matter how much people want to act like it is.

I noticed some people get mad about various things that the people who write back are just trying to help. I agree with Katie, if you word something wrong, some people get all cranky about it.
Just noting some observations.:)

I feel that way about people getting angry and offended/hurt. Seriously, toughen up. Life doesn't cater to your feelings, and that includes other people.

Exactly. There are things that you should be upset about. This would include a relationship issue, a loss in the family, or an attack on your country. People want to be upset about everything today. They complain instead of getting of their butts and finding a job. It is unbelievable that it's more profitable to collect unemployment than to work a minimum wage job. I have more
Dignity than that. I work that low paying job every day. When you have to work 40 hours a week and keep a relationship strong, there is no time for whining. Ok my rant is about over!

Haha just had to get that comment off my skin. I just think it is pitiful as well as amost half of the citizens of the U.S. today. Our fathers and grandfathers did not sacrifice their lives for people to sit on their butts all day. Ok officially done with the off topic rant.

A thread whining about whining started by someone who views whining as weakness. Inception! A dream within a dream within a dream :main_laugh:

Seriously though, while I agree it's stupid to be butthurt when told you're wrong, it's never easy to admit we may have been harming a beloved pet, or that someone we consider a friend gave terrible advice. And being attacked (or feeling attacked) for not knowing everything wouldn't be a great feeling either.

I'd have to agree with Katie in that wording is important, and tact/politeness can play a huge role in whether someone takes advice or not. If, as a knowledgeable person, your goal is to ensure the best for the animal, then just do your best to impart wisdom as kindly as possible. Some people will get butthurt no matter what, but try to just keep imparting great knowledge and shrug off the dorky replies :)

I'm only polite to people I think deserve it. :) Though if they're really doing poorly, I'll try to bite my tongue just so they're more likely to listen, but usually I'm not that nice if people are dumb. I don't really believe in censoring myself just to comfort others.

That's a good view. The only reason I see an issue with discounting the feelings of the butthurt is because then they're much less likely to take the advice given. If I didn't care about the animal I'd just tell people off too. People are stupid. But the animals deserve the best chance we can give them. And if that means I have to place nice to make people do things right, I try my best.

Hypocrite.

Didn't know that, and I admit that I was wrong. No need to be a douche about it though.

This thread is amusing as hell. People who whine and pout when they are corrected, 'cause they couldn't find their ass with both hands and a map when it comes to herpetological information participating in a thread where they bluster and swagger and claim that the feelings of other people aren't important.

I agree with the sentiment, of course. Just not the right of the people expressing it to apply it to themselves.

It's all about context; when someone has owned two geckos for a month and is just mindlessly regurgitating things they learned from one issue of Reptiles magazine, half a wikipedia article and the dust jacket of Tremper's book they're not in a position to claim that their attitude is acceptable because their information is valuable.

... I miss TRR. Sometimes.

You're adorable. :) You remind me of myself when I was a kid.

When asking for an opinion and forwarded with an answer, dont take offence.

One who will lurk, browse, and find ways to discriminate, degrade or attack (which happens) is in the wrong.

Russells first comment regarding pet stores. I find the biggest let down.

Not too much has changed, hey surin :) Still the same old

Sometimes I wish there was a 'like' button on each post.

Is it? I'm not sure. I thought it was "thanks" if someone helped you out and you found their advice helpful or whatever. Maybe it is supposed to be similar to a "like" button??
