Chick-fil-a

Before i say ANYTHING, i wasnt sure if this was going to be too contro or not. I hope we can keep it civil enough.

Got into a interesting discussion on the whole CFA drama today. One side opposing one side for the take down of the company. For those who may not know yet or havnt heard Chick-fil-a, a fast food company, was acussed of donating large sums of money to "hate groups" or groups that oppose the rights of others, in this case LGBTQ equal rights. Along side of this, their president Dan Cathy was quoted on a radio talk show and interview expressing his views on marriage rights, taking the "marriage is between a man and a woman" route.
http://news.yahoo.co...-154602388.html

After this the Jimmy henson company(Muppets) pulled their support from Fil-a stating that they do not plan to to further business with them, as they just released a line of toys. Fil-A started reclaiming and discontinuing the toys claiming that they had safety hazards.

NOW as of just this week i believe there are semi-rumors about chick-fil-a employees making fake FB accounts using stock photo images to combat negative feedback on FB. However, while there are fake accounts using stock photos to do just this, it obviously cant be linked to fil-a actually being in charge of this. It maybe a few radicals.

I apologize if any of the links seem a bit biased, i tried my hardest to find unbiased summaries. If anyone has better links by all means share them, or just anything interesting and relevant of course.

My take:
The pres has his right to his opinion, yes. I wont argue on that. BUT when you start funding hate groups, thats a line. That drags the whole company into your opinion and imo, thats when boycotting is acceptable. What Jimmy Henson did was what they thought right by THEIR opinion, and i agree with it personally. So, chick-fil-a basically lies about the toys in spite, which is kinda stupid. I get it, they dont want to work with henson anymore but the way they reacted was childish. There was a better way to discontinue the toys without putting JH on blast. As for the FB scandal, i could see Fil-a doing that, but i could also see some radicals doing as well. HOWEVER. Normally, people who oppose gay rights have no issue stating it on their profiles, why would they need to make fake ones?

I have posted this on another forum im on as well for discussion purpose, as i did over there, i will leave a link to the forum rules here too.
http://geckoforums.net/showthread.php?t=34189

I know most of them dont pertain here, but please, if you feel like you may say something stupid, or are new and havnt read up on them, check your self. This will make it a lot smoother.

NO hate or bigotry please. If you have a religious view, post it in a way that it doesnt effect/attack another person such as "My book says people who wear purple are lousy"

Honestly, I could careless.... This is middle school bs. I stand firm that gay couples should have the same rights as straight couples. Just call it something else that isn't biblically backed. If they really wanted to be together? You know? I just don't see why it's a big deal either way. My best friend is gay, and I hate seeing anti-gay protest or hate towards him/them... It makes me sick. I come from a southern baptist family so I'm the black sheep when it comes to this because I'm tolerant. Pretty sad... But also I don't think poking and prodding in religious peoples faces is the way to combat the hate... :/ why can't we all just get along and compromise.

I am indeed a southerner so this issue always puzzles me. Because I personally do believe marriage should only be held between a man and a woman. I would like to say that I have no problems with gays but it sort of puzzles my own mind because i have no problem with them, yet I do not like the idea of a same sex marriage. I know that you said our reasoning should not be backed on the Bible, but I live my whole life based on the Bible. It is hard to tell someone to leave religion out of it when religion has shaped their life. You know what I mean? I really do hope that gays can obtain the same rights that heterosexual couples hold. But somewhere in my mind I just do not want to see it called a marriage. As silly as this may sound, if it was called a Civil Union then it would not bother me a bit. And when the word marriage is normally viewed as a religious ceremony, then I do not see how this issue can be dealt without bringing religion into it.

Again, please no harsh comments as I have come out and admitted how i personally feel and how I am still confused about the situation. And i also held a lot in while typing this,

Only thing I will say is that many see it as intolerant and bigotry to not accept same sex marriages but it isn't intolerant to for those to push their values on others. I don't care whether someone is gay, bisexual, lesbian, or etc but I do care that you cannot have an opinion with out someone saying you cannot think that way. I have had many friends that were not straight and accepted them for who they are. Accept others for their opinions and don't push yours on others.

We have become a society that feels that we have to push our opinions on others because it is the only right answer. Look at it from a non biased view and see who is the one pushing their views on the other. Why don't we appreciate others for being different and not hate on others because they think differently. How about we focus on getting our country back on track and on issues that affect everyone. This political back and forth is too much and I wish they would discuss what they would do to help our country, not how the other is a horrible person.

People who oppose same sex marriage make me irrate.
WHY DO YOU CARE IF GAYS GET MARRIED? It doesnt hurt you, but your statements and actions hurt them. I am not a religios person AT ALL, and I still plan on getting married. Is that okay?
One of my dearest friends in still trying to figure out her sexuality, and it pains me to see her struggle with peoples hurtful views. And we live in a place where same sex marriage is legal - as it should be.

Let's get one thing straight. I NEVER HAVE AND WILL NEVER push my opinions on gay marriage towards someone. I have never said anything to hurt someone based on their sexual preference. Everyone has a right to their own belief and as long as they do not push it on others then it is ok. Katie, i could go along with the crowd and say that gay marriage wouldn't bother me but I am strong enough to admit my feelings. When raised in a southern fashion you will naturally feel strongly about topics like these. But, I am proud of my childhood and my southern values. But if there was a vote to legalize it or ban it, I simply would not vote. Because i do not feel comfortable saying they shouldn't and i do not feel comfortable saying they should. It is as simple as that with me. Please respect my opinion and every one elses as I have been very open and polite about this.

I didn't quote your statement, I don't understand why you would think I was talking directly to you.
My statement was also my opinion.

I feel if people truely believe in a God, why would he create gays to hate them?

I understand where you are coming from. And i believe in God. but what if i said this?:

If people truly believe in a God, why would he create terrorists, hurricanes, floods, storms, earthquakes, droughts, cancer, STD's, and racists to harm us?

This thread is on whether or not people find justice or not in the actions take by the JH company and CFL. Lets keep the religious battle to the minimum.

Honestly, as far as marriage goes, I plan to get married one day. I will find a nice guy and settle down, REGARDLESS of what a book says.

I understand that you want to keep religion out of this, but the topic is about a fast food chain that is 100 percent based on religion. so you gotta understand it is a major factor.

Also is it just me, or does everyone always crave chickfila on sundays

Well in that case....

The bible DEFINES marriage between man and women. So, as long as YOU dont get married to a man then your cool. But as for me, i dont have nor fallow a bible, so im pretty sure it doesnt apply to me ;). Maybe in your opinion yes, but in mine no. So, again, how is me going to your hell, effecting you? (this is more a direction at the public, not you russ). Get what im saying? AND WHERE does a fastfood company come in weighing on the matter. Sure, they can have their opinions, let em, but financially supporting them, which in its self IS bad customer relations, thats another thing and they should have expected these repercussions.

I understand and agree with you. Like i said earlier, i would never say anything to a gay person that is negative. But that does not mean I have to come out and support it. If someone asked me if i supported it i would say no. But i wouldnt push my opinions on anyone. Is that at least respectable?

Im incredibly offended that you would group homosexuals in the same catagory as STDS and terrorists. You should be ashamed.

I'm going to butt out of this conversation and quit reading it, as I am getting too angry and may say something to get myself banned.

(And for anyone of you wondering, I am a straight female but feel VERY strongly on equal rights)

Yes, thats all i or anyone asks for. People dont care about others opinions so long as it isnt being forced on them. You have yours and thats your right. Its those who decide that what they think is law, that become a problem.

Regardless of whether your a fan of equal rights or not, some people still may find what CFL did to be a bit childish, which is really what i wanted to know.

Love is the strongest, most powerful force in the Universe. It doesn't matter what colors or sexes it is between, as long as it is true.. plain and simple.

When did I group them in the same category? You referred that God wouldn't make gays if he wanted us to hate them. That is referring to the scenario that God puts us on this Earth to live an always happy life and not fight through any hardship or adversity. I simply made a separate example and I have been completely respectful of both sides on this issue. You have no right to tell me what i should and should not be ashamed of because you have no clue what kind of person I am or how much harder I had to work than most others to get where I am today. This is a perfect example of immaturity when someone can't handle that the other side is not going to change their stance on an emotional issue even though that person is willing to let out his inner feelings towards the subject when he knows he will probably be bashed.
