I had an idea...

I think about 50% of the threads I read on this site have to do with reptiles (mostly leopard geckos) that have stopped eating or refuse to eat...and most of the time, we give the same answers to every person that asks. Lately, there's been a SURGE of threads regarding anorexic reptiles.

I thought maybe there could be a "sticky" or some kind of link of information for people with reptiles that are not eating. I know there's one for Marcia's slurry, but I think this is a little different. Some things we always mention:

~Checking temps: surface and ambient
~Varied diet: crickets, mealies, waxies, silkies, roaches
~Other geckos in the tank/ competition for food
~Husbandry in general
~Adequate supplementation

I feel like a broken record every time I respond to a thread about an animal that isn't eating...what do you guys think? Good idea or not? Would anybody add anything to it?

Just thought i'd throw the idea on the table

I think this is a great idea Maia, but I would add more than that to it and make it a "MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS" sticky :) Maybe direct all new members there when they sign up??? Lol I know we all get tired of the same questions again and again and again but I don't know if there is really a "idiot proof" way to get around it!!!

I agree good idea.

I think one on eye issue's (mostly stuck shed) would also be good...there seem to be a lot of those as well.

Wow I can't beleive other suggestions like do-it your-self section got approved and not this one that would problaby save alot of gecko owners a life or two and usually because alot of reptile owners get desperate for their pet they'll post health problems in sections that they don't belong so as in to get more answers...

A diect link to an anorexic reptile section would be amazing in this site...8)

Sounds good but every case is different. There should be a sticky that says BEFORE POSTING PLEASE READ or something to that effect. Then inside the post it would tell posters that before they post they should explain their problem then have the run down of questions we always ask like..

~Checking temps: surface and ambient
~Varied diet: crickets, mealies, waxies, silkies, roaches
~Other geckos in the tank/ competition for food
~Husbandry in general
~Adequate supplementation

and ask them for detailed information and even pictures.

That way is cuts down the time waiting for a response and we don't have to repeat ourselves 9847398475397 times! Because once we walk in and see oO the warm side is just 80F we can suggest bump up your temps, instead of having to go back and forth into a thread. Other forums are like this and it cuts down the head.

Or we can have another sticky that says if your leo isn't eating.. then have recommended temps are 90 for warm and 80 for cool or whatever it is. And have a run down of other issues.

I think it is a perfect idea. If you could add photos that would be great. Once I was inquiring about how to know exactly where the trachea is (to prevent aspiration) and the nicest person posted pictures of her gecko's trachea. She was bitten in the process so I know she wouldn't want to do that more than once. If that picture could be included in a FAQ section, in particular FAQ about anatomy, that would be great. All of the very informative pics that are on this site would be useful.

Sounds excellent to me (sorry I know this thread is old). If someone wants to write up something, if it sounds ok I'll make it a sticky.
