I have seen it Marcia. And they are 100% right. If we cant come together to make things happen everything will be lost. It doesn't matter what animal you keep. We should all be on the same team.

Marcia, very good video.
I am living in the state (Florida) that started all of this mess, which is very sad. This started back when Dubias were banned from Florida. Same thing...they can thrive in this climate. Responsible pet owners and breeders know this, and do not turn these creatures loose. The Politicians state that these laws are for the irresponsible people, but it is affecting all of us. Government has been BIG BROTHER for a while. I don't have any answers, yet. But, I do agree that this is all about politics. A strong lobbyist group supporting our rights will help in this.
And yes, I wrote letters, and it did no good, obviously. But, I feel it gives me the right to SCREAM!!!

I see this primarily as as a political issue, and certainly not one based on scientific evidence or truth. It is based on ignorance and fear, and hidden agendas. The problem is that extremist special interest groups such as HSUS, PETA, Animal Planet, etc. have money that lines the pockets of politicians. Where do they get their money? From TV commercials that show pitiful animals that 'need our help' by sending donations. That money rarely goes towards helping those animals other than euthanizing them by the thousands. The rest is given in contributions to covert political agendas with the promises of votes.

We were 25,000 votes short of stopping this ban. GeckoForums.net alone has 27,511 members. Approximately 4,700,000 households in the USA keep some form of reptile and/or amphibian, according to this report: http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/omb/assets/oira_1018/1018_04182011-3.pdf

So, we lost. This loss is only the beginning. Signing petitions and sending online votes and letters is apparently not enough. Cussing out politicians and sending hate mail full of poor grammar and typos certainly is not the answer. The answer is for ALL OF US to ban together for a common cause and set an example that depicts us as the responsible, intelligent, and ethical people that most of us in the reptile community are. Sit down and write your Congress people, Representatives, and the President telling them in your own educated and articulate words just how this ban affects YOU and people you know. They need to know that you WILL NOT vote for anyone who's corrupt politics stand before the will of the people. DO IT TODAY.

One of the biggest problems with the herp community is that people tend to care only for their species of interest. There is too much of a "at least I still can breed my..." mentality. People need to realize how detrimental this is to the entire pet trade. This was a complete loss and we are only set up for failure at this point.

Marcia, I hope you don't mind, but I've been spreading this video on various forums like internet herpes. I feel as though it puts into words the frustration that we all feel and they start having great ideas about what NEEDS to happen in order for our community to be able to combat this, and future, attacks on our hobby.

Justin, I'm thrilled that you are spreading the 'word'!!! I would like to see this go viral. We slacked miserably preventing this issue from happening, and now that it has... well, let's just say it's a wake-up call for EVERYONE who keeps reptiles or amphibians. For all it's faults, the reptile community is very tight, and nothing brings a community together like a common enemy! LOL!
