Oh my god... I woke up this morning.. To find Manny my new fire skink as stiff as a board.. The tempuratures didn't go below 70 over night, there's no way that he froze.. Could he have just.. Up and died?? I'm just so upset right now.. I have no idea what to do.. If anyone could get back to me as quickly as possible.. I have to get to school and I don't want to leave him under a heat lamp if.. He's dead..

He can't wake up.. His eyes seem sunken in.

I just feel so responsible. I try so hard to take the very best care of my animals and I just..

I only had him for a day or so and I had started to grow attached to him..

If you've only had him for one day, then there must have been some very dramatic change in his tank to make him stiff like that

I don't know very much about fire skinks, but I saw one at a pet store once and that inspired me to do a little research. One thing I found out is that they are generally not particularly docile, although they can be if they were raised from a baby. You said in your earlier post that he was very calm. I wonder if he was sick when you bought him. I'm sorry for your loss.

I think he must have been sick prior to my purchasing him..

There's really not a lot of info out there on the internet, so I really had no way of telling if he was healthy or not, I guess..

Ugh.. This is an awful way to start my day.

Im 99% sure that he was ill before you got him, theres nothing that could do that to him so quick, cold/hot temps would have to be super extreme for it to be the cause.

Sorry for your loss

I'm sure you didn't in anyway contribute to his death. If it happened that quickly, he had to have been on his way out already, sorry you had to witness it.

I called the breeder that I bought him from (Got him at the All-Maryland Reptile Show) and he basically told me they don't do refunds from shows, but to come to the next show he's at and he'll see what he can do. Maybe give me half off or something..

I'm not really concerned with any kind of refund.. I just wish the little guy could've lived..

Rest in piece, little guy. I hardly knew you but you've got a special place in my heart.

I am so sorry to read about your loss

I agree with the idea that the fire skink was most likely sick when you purchased it

I'm sorry to say that IMHO it doesn't speak much of the breeder to not give a refund in this short of a time period

As was already stated-you would have to had something very extreme happen to have a perfectly healthy lizard die n two days

Please do not let this bad experience color your future reptile keeping
There are tons of good breeders out there

Which leads me to the question-was this a wild caught lizard?

That would make a big difference in the entire situation

just my 2 cents

In retrospect, poor little guy was probably wild caught.

They won't be giving me a refund - They haven't returned my e-mails.. I'm ready to give up on it.

I'm still very upset. I can't even look at skinks anymore. :( I just feel like they're going to die on me if i buy them. Even though I know it wasn't my own fault.

I'd tell you to avoid this vendor at future shows (They're from NJ) - But I don't think it's allowed.
