if someone is selling a gecko, and it has missing toes.. do you think that the buyer should be informed of that?

Definitely. It doesnt really effect future breeding of the animal, but explains a lot about past sheds or general past husbandry.

All animals I sell come with full explanations of their history and any problems I've noticed, possible defects, or possible future problems. I would expect the same from anyone I bought from.

Thanks :)

I'm asking because I just bought a gecko, and none of her pictures showed it. :( Her toes are completely healed, so she's been like that for a long time too.

I still plan to breed her in the future though, and she's a sweety. :)

Take pictures and contact the seller. Even if you plan on keeping the gecko, the seller should know that you noticed it, and that alone should be incentive for them to check their geckos more carefully next time.

I'm glad you're happy with her, though. :)

you can see she only has the two toes left on that foot.. :(

and he was only selling a few geckos, he definitely would have known...

I also think the seller should disclose. I will say, though, that occasionally, especially with baby volume up, I have had a gecko where I didn't notice something minor like a notched eyelid or a missing toe (though from the picture that's pretty hard to miss).

I've seen multiple pictures of her though by him, and he's had her a while. Also, he was only selling a few geckos at the time, and said he was getting out of them. I would think he'd have seen it. :/

Me and a friend together bought four geckos out of I think five he was selling.

I didn't mean to excuse him in this case, I was more commenting in general that there are situations where someone might not notice a minor defect. I think he should have known better and am wondering if he possibly posed the gecko so the missing toes wouldn't show in the picture.

well yea I know it can happen. Tail kinks and a missing toe here or there might be missed if there are a lot to take care of and go through.

I agree with this. Sometimes I might miss something tiny (especially when a gecko is small), but that should have been pretty obvious.

When I purchase a leo, (I mean if it is in the area and I can look at it), I also inspect it head to tail and actually look for missing toes. It wouldnt be a bad idea, if you were buying a gecko from a breeding online and asked if it was specifically missing toes, tail kink, or any other genetic defect they are aware of. This forces them to come clean on anything and if they dont and when you get it and see the toes, you can contact them immediately and inform them that the gecko you purchased had no deformities per them, so that isnt the same gecko. (As long as its in their terms that way anyways). Well, I would be mad if it had missing toes and I wasnt told. I would honestly want my money back, but thats just me...
I mean, I know it can be missed, but if he intentionally didnt take pics of the toes in every pic.. I would be suspicious

well I'd seen multiple pictures of her so she looked ok, and I didnt think of asking about it. I assumed he'd be honest about anything like that.. guess I was wrong though.

I'd feel bad asking for a refund, honestly... we got a pretty good deal on all four geckos. I'm just disappointed that I wasnt informed about it beforehand. I would have still bought her probably, but would have liked to know about it.

Is the person that sold you that leo a member here? If so, I'd like you to PM me the user name, if you don't mind. I want to protect myself. There's really no way something that obvious should have been overlooked. :main_no:

Anything that any buyer might consider a defect should be fully disclosed without a specific request for such information. A buyer could have any number of reasons for buying it and being a quality showpiece could be one of them. In such a case, its remaining full capability to breed is irrelevant to the fact that the seller is receiving payment for an imperfect animal. Lost toes, eyelid malformations, MBD, tail kinks, regenerated tails or portions of tails, spinal oddities, underbites, overbites, and excess skin are all imperfections that I would want to know about because I am not interested in paying my money for something advertised as if new that is going to actually arrive broken or incomplete.
