I'm looking for more advice for African Clawed Frogs. I did a site search and found this thread

http://geckoforums.net/showthread.php?t=20787&highlight=african+clawed+frogs

and a Google search as well, but if you have more advice, please give it. :)

My son's 4th grade science & history teacher has 3 african clawed frogs as the room pets. They look to be full grown and they're in a critter keeper until Monday as I'm donating a tank for them to have room. Seems another teacher in the 5th grade has given them to her because they are " easy to care for. I don't need a filter for the water or anything. Just leave them in the keeper, feed them, and let the kids look at them." Yeeeah..right. That's why my son came home on day 1 of school sayin we had to give one of our tanks to his teacher for the frogs. Now I see why he said that, the water was just as brown as the frogs were and they had enough room to turn around.

So this weekend I'm going to read up on these guys and teach my son about them. He offered to keep an eye on them and help his teacher with them. After offering a larger tank for the frogs, I also looking into getting a few other things for these guys. What type of filter would you recommend? I know a filter is a yes/no thing, but this is a classroom where I really don't think a water change is going to happen too often. Tera cota pots to hide in, large rocks (can't swallow size) & wood for the bottom. What types of wood to use? 29gal or 40gal tank? ***** is having their $1 Tank Sale again, so $40 for a 40gal tank isn't too bad.

Thanks for your advice :)

Here's some pics since people did look at the thread. *lol* We ended up with a 29long for the three frogs. Cleaning it out is an adventure and reminds me why I don't do water filled tanks. *lol*

I bought the teacher a siphon and will show her again how to use it this Tues, as last week my son said she just nets the frogs to their old tank then dumps the water and refills the tank. Seems she didn't like the siphon the first time we all learned how to use it and made quite a mess. *lol*

Awesome! I'm glad another set of kids are being taught proper pet care.

Sadly, improper pet care in a classroom isn't an uncommon thing.
