Slamander Or Newt?

First off I will not be getting any more reptiles until after the first of next year. Probably next summer even.
However, I am curious about these salamanders. I ALMOST got one of my leo (am glad I got Jasper instead ).
I guess my question is: Which species would be cheapest? Preferably one that doesn't need heat and can thrive in room temp.
Any ideas? Again this is just a thread to get ideas in my head..for now. Please cover housing requirements as well.

Lots of good info there. The vast majority of caudates do not need supplemental heat, and extended periods of time over about 80 degrees can be lethal.
