I was in the maritime provinces over the summer for my vacation, and almost every pet store down there are infatuated with salamanders. I was intentionally looking for magz regarding geckos but bumped into a Tiger salamander. With some knowledge provided by the store owner, these guys really caught my attention and i purchased the august edition of reptiles USA. With a GREAT article and some personal experiences shared throughout that months edition, the tiger salamander seems to be the best starter sal.

Anyone here keep these extravagant looking animals?

There was an article explaining how they interact with their owners, anyone else experience this?

Proper up-to-date Care sheet?

lastly, does anyone breed sals?

Hey there!
I own a fire salamander who is current going through his metamorphosis. They are the sweetest little guys around. If you are thinking of getting one you should maybe start out with a baby larvae because they are easier at first. They are completely aquatic and have external gills. Theyre very friendly and will often beg for food and follow you around.
Eventually they will start their metamorphosis. Their gills will receed and lose their fin and become completely terrestrial. They love to burrow into a soft coconut fiber or dirt. Are an absolute joy to have. At this point, just the sound of my voice causes my little guys to jump outta the dirt and try climbing up the glass. Im sure you would love them.
Only thing I can see thats bad is that while geckos need high temps, salamanders thrive in very cold temps. can actually die if they get too hot. And its not wise to feed them only crickets. Earth worms are much better but need to be cut so they can swallow them.
At this time of year it may be harder to find a larvae because they are usually starting to change.
They are absolutely beautiful creatures with vibrant yellow and black bodies.
They should NOT be handled very often because the oils on your skin hurts them.
Wow im babbling.sorry.
If you have any questions id be happy to answer them

They do look cool! I don't know anyone who has them but it looks like there are a bunch for sale in the amphibian classifieds section on kingsnake.com

Good luck finding one!
