So after going to the county fair last weekend, I've been wanting to get ducklings. I have had parrots when I was younger and have worked at a few farms in Poland (mostly gathering eggs, milking the cows, working in fields) but I know I still have no idea on how to raise ducklings or ducks.

I know they are messy and sometimes noisy.
I have researched on a few websites on how to care for ducks, but they do not really go into any detailed care.
So far I know that when getting pet ducks, get them as day old ducklings. Ducks are social animals and usually it is a good idea to get more than one. When they are ducklings they should not be allowed to swim until they are 4-5 weeks old because they can not produce the oil in their feathers needed to insulate them from the water. Ducklings should be started on duckling starter feed, them moved to growing feed, and later to regular duck feed. Vegetable greens can be fed to ducks and ducklings as well. One duck needs a minimum of 10 feet to run around. Ducklings need to be housed in a cage with a heat lamp in a corner. Duckings should have water and food available at all times.

Anyways, I am not planning of getting more than one duckling, however, I am wondering if this will be okay for the duckling or should this be the number 1 reason to not get a duck, because I can not have more than 1? I am looking into getting a Pekin duck. I have read that Pekin ducks when raised alone with people become attached to their human companions and will prefer human company. Also, I would like to know if a female Pekin duck will lay eggs without having duck companions.

I would really like more information in raising ducks and would love any recommended websites or books to read on the subject.
I do not like being an impulse buyer with pets as much as I want to be. I would like to know what I am getting into and weither I should even consider getting into it.

Finally Got ChaCha

So I finally got my duckling. I named her ChaCha because she wiggles her bottom. I have all the supplies I need for when she's a baby. Here is a picture.
