Default Not heating up?

I set my tank up for Amri last night who should be here within minutes or an hour or two he out on delivery now, I set my tank up last and monitored the temps it was getting up in the higher 80s, never hit 90f and is now back down under 80. I am using shelf liner as substrate, when I lift it up and touch the glass the glass it hotter, should I remove the shelf liner an put paper towel down? How thick should the paper towels be?

Ok so I moved the thermometer slightly over and its 91 there, still worried that it can go from about 75 to 91 all in the same side of the tank. :/ still debating the paper towels, I'd rather not put them down but if itll keep him warm than thats whats best for him. I'll check what the glass is heating up to.

I may be missing something, but how can it go from 75 to over 90 on the same side? I never cared for the shelf lining. Paper towels are easier IMO.

Some of the under tank heaters can have hot spots. I feel that the hides often trap heat so it's generally warmer under there. If you need more efficiency from your heqating, try taping aluminum foil below the UTH (so the UTH is sandwiched between the bottom of the tank and the aluminum foil),

Thanks for the input, I'll definitely try the tin foil! I ended up working noon to about 10pm so I called my dad during work and talked about watching the temp and he put something over half the lid so not as much heat escapes, it actually does look like it helped a bit. Not sure if that would have any bad effects.

Might try a red light for both light and a bit of heat, trying to figure out what wattage I should look into getting.

ZooMed Digital Terrarium Thermometer
Model: TH-24

I think its a bit touchy, I think I'm now more worried that the cool side is too cool now.
