Preventing egg developement?

Is there a way to prevent a female leo from developing eggs when she hasn't been bred?

With chameleons, we just keep them at a lower basking temp by 5-7 degrees, restrict food, and keep their photo period relatively short. Say like 8 hours instead of 10-12.

This wouldn't work on Geckos too? I can see how the photo period wouldn't have much effect, specially as so many keep them without light, but reptile metabolisms should be relatively similar. No?

Leos require belly heat, not basking or uvb.

Unfortunately there's no way to stop ovulation. Usually females will reabsorb follicles as they form but sometimes they will lay infertile eggs.

If you have a male, you could try separating them by a greater distance. They might be able to smell each other.

I don't have a male. I only have one female gecko. I don't think she is old enough to ovulate yet. I just get worried that she could have problems in the future.

So has any one actually tried the method I mentioned? Mel, you said there is no way to stop it...but you weren't very specific. I don't mean to be rude, but am just very interested in this. Like I said before their metabolisms can't be that much different seeing as they are both reptiles.

The method I mentioned isn't always 100% effective but it has shown to work. And I do know off people who have completly stopped egg production with this method in chams.

You can cool Leos and delay ovulation (some times) but as soon as you warm them back up they will ovulate. Most people only put females through a brumation period to have them all breeding at the same time. This isn't a very good option for young females since they are not fully grown by the time the ovulate for the first time. By cooling them to delay ovulation, you're also delaying growth. Hope that makes sense.
