I've been bored lately and have the horrible habit of surfing through random forums and I'm shocked to see how many people think it is ok for just a normal person with little experience or training to own exotic pets such as big cats, dolphins, foxes, monkeys, and even whales and hippos!
Not so surprisingly they are quick to defend their "right to own" and their abilities. I hope most of these people do have the proper training or at least access to experts. Here's one of the forums I found to be one of the extremes. People have no idea what they are doing or getting themselves into and they are quick on the defensive side and quick to bash each other. http://board.pets-buynow.com/Exotic_Pets I know reptiles and birds are considered exotic pets too, but I wouldn't ever own one that would grow up to kill me. Giant snakes can kill you, but honestly, I think the only reason people get killed by them so often is because they are more popular/legal than a pet lion. What do you guys think about breeding, selling, and owning exotic animals that you know little about? |

I sure hope they know what they are doing, personally i think those kind of animals should be left in the wild

SMH..
I can't believe what i read on some of those post. I honestly don't see what business people have owning a monkey, bear, tiger, etc. as if it were a house pet, especially those people that dress them up in tutu's and baby clothes. They should only be housed if they are being rehabbed, in wife life facility, or somehting extreme that shows the the animal won't be able to survive in the wild, then in there I see it fit to own one if you can house/care for it properly. Imagine you neighbor randomly buying a cute little baby tiger things grows up and ends up in ur yard for lunch

that forum infuriated me. especially the guy that has the pet shop in florida. he said he has Bald Eagles for sale!!! I mean, COME ON! you live in the USA and are trying to sell the nation's bird! how stupid can you get?
I don't think anyone has the right to own those sort of animals without reason. I'm guilty of watching animal planet and i LOVE "growing up [baby animals]" and i think thats the ONLY reason people should be able to care for those animals; to rehabilitate and rescue animals. But in the end of the stories the animals always end up in expert care in zoos or rescue facilities, not "in ur yard for lunch." lol. |

This thread reminded me of a man in Harlem that housed a fully grown alligator/Crocidole (i forget which one) and a Tiger in a 3bedroom apt, he lived in public housing and the only reason they found out was because he went to the ER after he was bitten, i think

these people are so stupid! just because a cat and a dog can live inside a house, doesnt mean a wild animal can! theyre just captive, not domestic.
those poor animals. the gator just wants to swim and hunt and the tiger just wants to run. eventually the animal is going to go stir crazy, heck, i go stir crazy all the time. the man deserves to be bitten. |

IMHO there are many species of animals that just DO NOT and will never adapt to being kept as pets and they suffer for people trying to do this
Money will buy anything but it doesn't mean that it is the right thing to do Now-rehabilitating animals for release back into their habitat is another story but that is not what these people are all about I am not as crazy as PITA but there has to be limits somewhere if not for the person trying to keep a "wild" animal but for the animals sake I do think that experience and having the situation and means to be able to care for any animal is the first thing to be considered but keeping some of the animals as pets that were mentioned is just plain crazy my .02

That is one of the most crazy forums I have ever seen...at first I thought all was a joke!
"My gorilla killed a squirrel today" It seems to be very "special" people there...they donīt seem to be "healthy"
