With Flexwatt the main thing you have to worry about is too many amps flowing through the heat tape. I believe if you have the 8 watt/ft tape the specs recommend keeping the length under 40ish feet, so you should be fine if you have that kind of tape. There won't be any real difference in heat...
These very active and fast roaches are great for all sizes of geckos but especially for raising babies and juvies. They are much easier than dubia to feed as they run around more and are less inclined to freeze or hide. I'm selling newly hatched nymphs of the same size.

I have a battery back-up for my computer, like the one here -- http://www.provantage.com/apc-bk500~7AMPU01N.htm, that I would just unplug and use for my incubator. A hovabator would last a few hours with an average size battery back-up, which should be enough for most typical outages.
