I've got my new girl ( no name just yet) on repti-carpet right now but I'm reading about the humidity and that alot of people are using eco-earth or bed-a-bark or whatever ( coconut fibers), so I wanted to know what was best? Is it like the whole sand thing with the leos or are AFTs different in the substrate needed??

AFTs do need more humidity than Leos, yes. I keep Puzzle on Repti-Carpet. It's easy to clean, and he gets the humidity he needs from his humid hide. I also run a humidifier in the room his cage is in to keep the levels up because it is very dry in the room.

You don't want to put them on sand, the risk for impaction is the same as for Leos.

Sand is a risk of impaction but more so no good for AFTs because its too dry. I used coco fiber for a long time for my AFT and never had any probs with it. Mine is currently on paper towels.

well I have her on reptile carpet and a moss hide, like my leo. I figured sand was bad, but wasn't sure about the eco-earth stuff. I wasn't sure which is better, the coco fiber or the reptile carpet? I don't want to risk impaction, even if she is almost a year ( shes not quite 7 inches nose to tail).

I dont mind giving her a spritz a couple times a day, and our regular humidity levels here naturally are in the 40's anyways. I have her humid hide on the UTH and gave her carpet an all over spritz, to initally get it up and I'm watching it close to see any adjustments I need to make. I'm running a digital temp./humidity that I use for Amara's tank.

I still can't get her to eat yet. I've tried crickets, mealies, and a super with no interest. Hopefully she'll eat alittle tonight.
