I bought a Super Snow Tremper Albino recently and I have seen that she takes a few times to catch the super worms I put in front of her. I have put mealworms in her mealworm dish and she refuses them but I think that is just a dislike of mealworms. She eats great (3 supers every other day) but it just takes her a few tries to get it. I know that can be an issue with Enigmas but she is not an Enigma. I was wondering if anyone has seen this happen with a SS?

I actually have a Snow Bell that has that same problem. After trial and error... My husband figured out that she is completely blind in her left eye. She can only see things with her right. So, we tong feed and present the prey items on the right. She can see LARGER items on her own and if it's a big enough target she can nail it. But--- the small skinking items like mealies and supers- she has trouble with. It's like she just has no depth perception. We just tong feed her exclusivly. She was 26 grams when we "adopted" her from the guy two streets over.... and in three week- after fingruing out the problem... she has gained! She is now a tubby little thing at 44 grams. She looks so pretty now. It just took time to fiurge it out. I have a SST that won't tong feed and is sort of picky, but I have SS that's the same way... It might not be just cuz she is an SS... might be sight issues? I donno... I am just going of the experience we had. HOPE I helped... "/

Thanks for your experience. She has a vet visit next week (just a check since I always take my new ones for a vet visit) so I will ask then. She sees the food and lunges for it but it seems like she is playing with it. It takes her a few lunges before she will actually pick it up to eat it.

Is it a young one like 1-2 month old? If so, I have a 2 month old super snow that does exactly that. She misses a few times before catching the mealworms. But I've noticed her getting better lately, catching on first tries, so I may chalk it up to her just needing practice.

Are you using any lights for heat? Albinos are much more sensitive to the light then a normal gecko and I have noticed that albino eclipses and SS albinos seem to be even more sensitive than other albinos.

no lights she is in a rack system. I bought her recently without knowing her actual age. She is 30 grams. Its been a week since I bought her at the show could it still be stress?

I have lots of geckos, albinos and non-albinos, snows and non-snows who do this. That's why it takes me so long to do the feedings.

Have you tried leaving them in the dish overnight? Put 4 worms in the dish and see how many are left there the next day. If all four are still there leave them in another day. You might have a shy eater or a gecko training you to hand feed :)
