Fact or Fiction?

Hi, I was told that the albino pilbarensis (Nephrurus levis pilbarensis) is weak and the mortality rate is very high. Is this true? Does the lack of availability contribute to a certain degree of truth to the claim? What say you?

Thanks in advance.

Anybody?

Also does the albino form of Nephrurus amyae exist in the hobby yet? If so, how would such specimen look like? Thanks

I have heard/been told that the problem with them is their eating habits. That baby and juveniles will eat on their own but ALL adults quit eating and must be hand fed for some reason. I also have heard that they have not been breeding too many albino to albino...just hets to hets and maybe hets to albino. Dont know why....just what I have been told.

Complete fiction.

It's the same rumor that has been going around for years.

I speak from personal experience, none of that "I've heard this and that"...

Scott from TLC told me a few years ago this is true. Maybe now the animals have been outcrossed, but he told me they are pretty much blind and have to be hand fed.

While i do not have a answer to the OP's question, i do have some questions to add to hte subject.

Who is working with them? (in the US). And does anyone know what they go for?

Regards,
Kenny

I know a few people who are working with them. But I didn't know they will grow up to be blind. This info is new.

I talked with Scott about them the other day. He told me that the bloodlines have strengthened a lot. They're still not "bullet proof"...but what knobtails are...? He said sometimes he has to give the hatchlings a little extra care, but once they get going they are just fine and pretty much behave like normal pilbars.
I think they're stunning geckos and we're going to take a shot at working with a few this year :)

BTW, does anyone else dream about what albino amyae would look like....!

I don't think that's true, because I was over at scott's house just today, and saw at least twenty albino levis pilbarensis
