That looks like it has some nice rubbing surfaces to aid in shedding.

I spray painted it with that rock texture spray paint. It allows them to climb easily, and helps with shedding like you said. I also spray paint wooden hamster houses in it - they can climb the houses and rest on top if they want, and they love it.
