Herpbator/Reptipro5000 incubator testing

I've been beta testing two new Herpbator/Reptipro 5000 incubators.

Just thought I'd pass along some of the info on them. First of all, they are good small incubators, not a lot of chamber space, but adequate for small breeding projects. They are well designed and seem to be high quality. They control both heating and cooling, and have a reservoir tray in the bottom for water and a sponge pad to add humidity to the chamber if needed. An internal light is useful for egg monitoring.

Now, as for temps....they are supposedly calibrated at the factory. The digital readout must be for the heating sensor temp, not for the chamber temp, so be aware that you will have to carefully check temps with a good digital temp probe (or a certified traceable mercury thermometer for best accuracy) when setting your desired temperatures.

In order to get one unit to give us a chamber temp of 89-90 (there is a continual 1 degree swing in temps as the unit turns on and off), we had to set the unit readout temp to 95. When we set the other unit to 95, the chamber temp only achieved 86 degrees, so there is a wide fluctuation in temps based on the unit readout.

Just wanted to pass this along to those getting this unit. Check your temps carefully.... Other than that it seems to be a fine incubator and should serve us well.

I agree with your findings completely. I have mine set at 96 and am achieving a chamber temp of 89.7. I used a bag of water at the bottom to help reduce the fluctuation as bad and that seemed to help stabilize my temps to +/- 1 deg. Other than needing to calibrate the incubator individually I think that they are a good buy. I use mine for males only and use my NS for females so it works our fine for smaller projects. They will fit 2 SIMs in them if set up for it.

Yes, I'm there too. Mine is set for 86 and keeping a reasonably steady temp at about 82.5 with the probe from the digital thermometer inside the SIM and the thermometer itself inside the reptipro.

These are pretty good products... We picked up an MR-148 just to check it out... We have a couple of eggs incubating on it now... Despite what some say, there have been no modifications done to these reptile incubators to make them different from a cooler/warmer for food and drink... They ALL have the same "issues" with the actual temperature not matching the read out...

Like many said, the temps need to be calibrated but the same goes for any commercially available incubator... I would calibrate even NS incubators to be sure everything is correct...

Also, if you remove the shelf, you can fit 3 SIM boxes in it stacked on top of eachother...

I wish someone would make an incubator with a sensor inside that you could put into a container, and set the temp readout to reflect the actual container temp.

Couldn't you just put your thermostat probe into a container and program the thermostat to the desired temp and see the readout that way?

That's what I'm doing, but I think it would be nice to have an incubator where I didn't have to have my own thermometer and probe (and keep knocking over the thermometer every time I open the egg container).

My incubator has a digital thermostat (Helix) that is mounted on top of the unit. It has a nice digital readout showing the current temperature where the probe is located. I don't have the probe in a container but it would be easy enough to have a "dummy" container containing the probe, which in turn would display the temperature on the digital readout of the thermostat. I'm pretty tired right now and I am feeling a headache coming on so maybe I am missing a part of this discussion completely LOL. If that is the case I apologize in advance.
