I have incubators one is a plain ol hovabator. The other is a smal mini frige. I got the mini because I knew I was going to outgrow the hovabator this year. I set it up 2 weeks ago and got temps stabilized to move my eggs. I sat for 4 days at 83 with no problems now I move over the eggs and let things settle down and it won't go over 78-9 degrees. So igive it a small bump maybe an 1/32 of a turn on my rheostat. I did that last nite today I check it and everything seems to be ok at 82.5 no problems....I come home tonite and the @#$&*^%#$$!!! thing is at 88! Uggghhh! I opend the door to cool it down and turned down the stat but now I'm worried I screwed my eggs. Does a bump in temp have to be over a long period of time or will a partial bump for a day do me in?

Its good that you have a thermostat on its way. the rheostats work off room temperature. when you checked the temps the first time the room temp. might have been cooler than when you checked them later that day. Thats why the temps kept moving around. As for the eggs, it depends what stage the eggs are in and also how many times the temp. changes during the incubation. 88 degrees isn't to hot to kill the eggs but going from 78 to 88 degrees could cause some deform problems if the eggs hatch. Problems like eye lids being deformed or not having eye lids at all. You will just have to let the eggs hatch and see what happens.
