Who uses wine coolers to incubate their eggs? I was thinking of doing this because It just seems easier to me then the hovabator, and cheaper than reptipro. What brand of wine cooler would you reccomend??

Would any wine cooler go to 85 degrees? Cause when I think cooler, im thinking fridge like temps, and I didnt know if they went up that high....

have built 2 out of wine coolers and the look and work great here is a pic of the first one it was too small so I built one 3 times bigger. If you use a thermalelectric unit you can reverse the power wires and the unit will heat. here is a pic of the small unit I dont think it matters on the brand.

I got the wine fridge from craigslist I already picked up a bigger wine fridge and sold this one the other day. I already had the helix so $50.00 is what it cost me. the new one is 3x bigger and it cost me about $120.00. $100.00 for fridge $20.00 for flexwatt and metal tape.
search for a wine cooler on craigslist and if you have any question let me know.

Thanks for pointing that out Robin. I wonder if repti pro changed the thermostat out for a better one or if the repti pro and MR-148 Mini fridge are exactly the same other than the name stamped on the front. I see you can find the MR-148 for about 50 dollars less than the repti pro. If anyone has compared these units side by side could you chime in as I am interested in knowing if they are the exact same thing.

The one Robin linked is the EXACT same thing as the repti-pro, LLL pro mr-148, Kemp herp-bator, and probably others, any claims to the contrary are purely marketing BS. A LLL rep openly stated that a while back, some of the others are reluctant to do so as it exposes the ridiculous markup they put on the units.

I'm so tired of lifting the lid of my hovabators to check eggs. I'm going to have to break down and build me a new one this off season.... They just look so much better and sure they work better too.

Hello guys,

a wine cooler is usually not that exact. I attached a few crappy paint drawings of how to build a professional incubator, which is very exact.

In the first picture you can see the basic setup of the incubator. The red lines simulate the air current. Number 2 is the sidewall, on bottom is a cut-out, where the air comes out. The black horizontal lines simulate the grids. Number 1 shows the heating element. You cut out a circle, where you place an aerator, which draw the air out of the incubation room (big blue A). The red line is the heatingelement. Therefore you use something like in picture 4 (copyright Chiara Leopardgecko), I'm sorry, because I don't know English translation. The aerator is blowing the air around the heating element, so it gets hot. The hot air comes out of the cut out on bottom. I hope now you can understand the red lines in picture one. So the air is always circulating. With this incubator you have 100% circulated air and accurate temperatures. I have two of those incubators myself, and if some people are interested, I can post a picture of it.

So basicly you have two chambers. One for the heatingelement and air current and the other is the "true" incubator.

I'm sorry for my bad description, if you have any questions don't hesitate to contact me.
