Almost all geckos only eat live food... None of mine would touch food that isn't alive.

It's only hereditary in the sense that most reptiles prefer live food.

Really, the only non-live food on the market that's even being looked at as suitable is Grub Pie, and that's still being tested out as to whether it's appropriate as a life-long food.

Leopard geckos prefer live food and that is the healthiest option for them.
