Litter Box?

After perusing the boards here I have noticed a couple people use "litter boxes" (small boxes filled with sand) for their leopard geckos to use to go to the bathroom.

I was just wondering how that worked? Did you have to teach the gecko to use it? Or did he just kinda know when you put it in there?
How many have tried it but their gecko just didn't use it?

If/when I get a gecko I had wanted to try this out, just wasn't sure how to go about it.

Thanks! :)

I've seem that too. And I thought about doing something like that, but all mine seem to have different preferences on where they go. So I'm not sure how it would work.

But I think most that have tried this are using paper towel in a box where the gecko always goes.

Sometimes I think they like to have a secluded hiding spot, when they do thier business.
