So a rescued leo(my friend owns) all of a sudden has loose stool. Watery and everything. Last week it looked fine, then she noticed it look like a thick liquid by the watter dish(wasnt water). Then today on the paper towel the color of the poo is tanish color and some watteryness. no white or black. Never been on sand either.. One thing is, the under tank heater shes using for him dosnt put off much heat(getting a better one this weekend) could the cooler temp for belly heat cause the loose stool? Or do you think it could be something worse? Shes had this guy for awhile now(hes a normal, about 5 years old) this is the first sign of anything like this shes getten out of him and ive had him a few months now. His old UTH stopped working so she had to switch him to the crappy one that dosnt put out much heat at all really..

What is the leo eating, suppliment schedule and has she ever had a fecal exam done? Lower heats usually affect digestion as in slowing it down which should present like constipation rather than runny stool, parasites would be more my guess for watery stool.

No fecal has been done. She feeds him mealworms and gives him the calcium in a dish which is in the tank 24/7. He seems to be acting ok other then the stool problem. What could cause the parasites? Do you think they where there before he came to her, or could he have gotten them somehow while being with her? He is the only pet she has.
Ive never dealt with any parasites or ran into think kind of problem thankfully so this is why im asking your advice. He's a very sweet gecko and I dont wanna see anything happen to him

intestinal parasites can be spred thru fleas, flies and an assortment of house pests. If she has friends with pets she easily could have carried home one of the mycroscopic cysts on herself and inadvertantly passed it to her leo. There are a ton of ways parasites can get to our pets with out being directly in contact with another infected animal. Has she ever given him crickets just as a treat? They can carry parasites as well.

She should be able to take a poo in and get it done without the leo but being in such a bad state it wouldn't hurt to have a follow up visit, and also just because the leo never ate the crickets didn't mean he wasn't exposed to any parasite it might have been carrying. And you're welcome :) Happy to try and help.
